Indiana will send an assistant in today (Friday) for five-star senior Braylon Mullins, a source told @Stockrisers.  UNC will send staff in next week, UConn was in yesterday afternoon.

Man I would HATE HATE being a recruiter . This is not directed specifically at Mullins but we sent an assistant to his school/home YET AGAIN after years of watching his HS/AAU games/practices etc, hosting him at IU repeatedly, going to his home numerous times, offering 500k+ (or way more), the chance to play at the premiere in-state school which  will have 4-5k coeds that will dig him and then have  job opportunities that will last a  lifetime. What TF else needs to happen?????

Watch this might change your mind a little. They went over UCONN's roster at spots 1-3 next year and they might have 7 or 8 players at those positions next year. The report is that Braylon is looking at their roster very thoroughly.  Who know who f these guys know anything. Also there is a new guy on their and say he is an Indiana guy

Thanks I watched it and I feel a little better. I feel it helps we missed on  Haralson but people love what unconn is doing with player development. If Braylon feels he is better than those other guards coming in . I beleave it is 50/50 at best.

I could not agree more. The time and resources that schools spend on high school kids is ridiculous. In the portal era, that seems less and less important. We took two guards from the portal this year and they are probably better than anyone we could have recruited who would be a freshman this year. It would feel to me a little humiliating as an adult to be kissing up to 15 -17 year old kids hoping they pick my school. I'm at the point where I just don't care that much what high school kids decide.

And he might end up there. His life, his choice. I'd love to see him at IU, but if he's not, we'll fill his spot with someone good from the portal. High school kids decisions aren't as important as they used to be.

Then why are we spending so much time, energy and resources on them?  The ROI isn’t good!  We spend 1/10th the time, energy and resources on portal recruits.  This is why I am not upset on missing out on high school kids but I think we need to stop investing so much time, energy and resources into them.  High school kids are way too fickle and really aren’t mature enough to make a sound decision, it’s more emotional.  I say invest a little time in them so when they hit the portal after their freshman year, you can be in there to swoop them up, lol!  Because the grass isn’t always greener on the other side!

100%. Obviously, getting in early on kids doesn't make a difference. The best high school players we have gotten lately have been very short recruitments. I think we need to reevaluate what we are doing.

Trent Sisley just committed this week! Yeesh.

IMO, he’s been the exception since CMW has been the coach.  I think CMW has done better in short run recruitments and I bet we have a lot of University dollars invested in those long term, no commitment recruitments that could be allocated elsewhere!  Yes, just my opinion but you have to admit this does or should be looked at anyway!

Fwiw: top 50ish DC combo guard Derek Dixon is announcing today and North Carolina has been thought to be his landing spot for a while. Very much a scoring guard in the Jasper Johnson mold. Should Dixon make the call for UNC and Adams for UConn there’s no scenario in which we’re not happy for those developments.

Darius Adams is announcing Monday afternoon.

Lol why? What from that makes you think he’s choosing UConn?

His Dad said there development of players is just different. Talking about UConn I feel this is a big tell. Money and love not everything.

His dad also said his son wasn't going to college to not start and pretty much intimated that he needed to be a big part of the offense.  Darius Adams is likely going to be committing Monday to U Conn.  They are also very much in the running for Meleek Thomas -- Thomas, Mullins, and Adams are all five star shooting guards.

You can be an optimist or pessimist in terms of interpreting everything he said but it means squat to the actual commitment.

I'm not a big fan of high school kids making demands concerning roles in college. Asking for guarantees like that would make me walk away. I don't care how good they think they are, it's not their program.

I don't think it's making demands in this case, but evaluating each program and landing in the best scenario to be a major player year 1.

There aren’t that many that are major players in year 1 but I think it’s more about trying to set up the best scenario for them to be a 1 and done or their quickest route to the NBA, IMO

I know this is a common theme with the top kids but a coach then has to figure out how to make that work within a team concept. I am very wary of kids who put their own goals ahead of the teams. I'm not saying that Mullins is that guy, but if he is, I'm probably off that train.

So if a player leaves school early to go the NBA, aren't they putting their own goals ahead of the team's?

Especially with NIL involved, this is more of a business than ever before.  IU brought in a lot of players who would not have transferred to IU if they Purdue caliber NIL.  Be glad that players do consider personal goals.

On top of what Race said, this was his dad talking, not him fwiw.
In any event, I don’t see the issue. Basically every player is going to look at, and should look at, how well he fits the needs of the program he’s joining, and this is the game they love, they want to play. Pick the team that just picked another elite 2 guard? Or pick the team - that otherwise is a good fit, that needs an incoming 2? Easy choice
