I can tolerate cupcakes when at the very least most people have heard of the school. Everyone's heard of Harvard and Army. Most people that follow CBB have heard of Gulf Coast and Wright St. It's the peak Crean scheduling when you'd have to see if the school is actually D1 that bugged the hell out of me.

I said on this board at the time the series was set on this date it would be over break and tickets would need to be resold. My comment was immediately shot down and I was told how much better it was to play Kansas on this date then be in the Crossroads Classic.

Fast forward two years and now people are complaining about what I pointed out at time. Maybe this is only date that worked for both teams. Only thing that is different from 2021 when game was decided for that Saturday is IU is actually making a unified student section which I would not have guessed as this has never been done before over break. 

Seems athletic department is making best of the situation.

I don’t really even care about the name. It’s the number. Having a couple of awful teams is fine. Use it as a glorified scrimmage, get bench warmers some PT, etc… 

I get annoyed at having 8 of those teams on the schedule. At some point they become superfluous.

I think our schedule is plenty tough enough. You have to get home games for your revenue and a lot of power conference teams won't play each other on home courts. Also you would be complaining if we missed the tournament because we lost to many non conference games

Please don't tell me what I would be doing in a made up scenario.

Also that never happens.  Teams with hard non-cons and rough records always get the nod over teams with better records but too much of a creampuff schedule.  This is exactly why I want the brutal schedule.  Year after year the committee rewards these teams.

I don't see many cream puffs on this schedule and is no different than any other power conference teams. Dukes non conference schedule so far and see both tough teams us cup cakes

I guess you will always be upset because nobody will play all top power conference teams. Just seems like you want to complain about something so trivial

I don't think anyone is advocating for a pillowy soft non-con schedule like we've had in the not too distant past, but we can't have a non-con full of world beaters either.  Need to strike a balance between tough teams that will help prepare us for conference and softer teams that we can get depth guys some run and some Ws on the resume.  Those softer teams don't need to be in the 300+ range though.

Now you're catching on!  But I also don't find it to be trivial.  This is a factor come selection Sunday.

Just looked at RMK last great team 92-93 and these teams were on the non conference schedule. Murray St., Austin Peay, W. Michigan and Butler and this was when Butler was an after thought. Also had Tulane on the schedule but they were pretty good that year. As for how it will work effect selection Sunday, if our schedule stacks up with the other teams it won't hurt our chances.

Schedule building is a very underrated piece a puzzle for a team.   A balancing act for programs. In the end a program must chose if they want to load and make it very challenging or load up on cupcakes.   There is no guarantee way when it comes to the selection committee.  I’ve seen examples of teams loading up and getting rewarded for playing a brutal schedule and I’ve also seen them penalize teams for having too many losses playing a top non con schedule. With no set criteria it becomes a guessing game each year on what the committee will value when it comes to schedules.    No right or wrong answer here and some people will want to roll the dice and play the hardest schedule possible and others will want to roll the dice and play a softer schedule.   For me personally I would prefer a couple of cupcakes sprinkled in along with some challenging non con games.   Keep non sos 100 or lower and the schedule will never be a problem however if it’s around 250 or above and now you are playing with fire

Yep. The priorities of the committee seem to shift every year. I've seen interviews with committee members done years where they explicitly stated that the number of wins was a large factor and other years where they placed more emphasis on SOS. Best bet is to to find a nice balance between the two where the team can get plenty of wins with a decent SOS.

I like to see us play big games, but if we lose those?  Just win baby!  Let the rest of the pieces fall where they may!  I don't really give a $hit about noncon like some.  Give me 2 or 3 big games precon  and take care of the rest in conference!
