But then I was flat out wrong on Galloway meeting his start-the-season timetable, so I'll just say X won't be back by then, so that he will. :) I think both will be back by the end of February. I really think at Northwestern on February 15 is a date to keep in mind. thebigweave, HoosierHoopster, mamasa and 2 others 2 3 Quote

Rico Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 From an Illini board: Yes, they can get bitter. There’s nothing more sad in the Sports World than a team or franchise that had a great level of success and then who slid back into mediocrity (Indiana basketball, Nebraska football, De Paul basketball, etc.). The fans got accustomed to a high level of success and it’s a bitter pill when that success evaporates. Indiana roundball has not deteriorated to the level that Nebraska football did... but the Indi Memories are strong and we all know the mythology that has been built around Hoosier State basketball. But when I see anyone pushing that Indiana mythology narrative it’s just a reminder that the same mythology could have been built around State of Illini ball. (Maybe THAT movie will yet be made one day). There simply is no greater ball traditional than the Prairie State. As They say... “The Original Home of March Madness!”. This will always be an intense matchup what with the (elite) tradition history of both States and the great Big Ten generation games that have been played over the years. Indiana and Nebraska share a bit of State inferiority complex. Much of their State identities are built around their State U’s. Nebraska has no major pro teams... and Indiana has not had real great success with the NFL or with the Pacers since the ABA days. And neither State is on top of people's vacation lists. The best we can do is beat the Hoosiers on the court and respect their ball tradition that they have known. Sort of like professional courtesy. And one more (important) thing. Never let the current Illini success level slide down ever again. Quote

I'm hoping this Illini board post will balance you out and calm you down: Fighter of the Nightman God, the IU boards are funny. What a bitter, has-been group of people. I have literally never talked to a soul who has been to the fake Assembly Hall and to State Farm Center and preferred Bloomington ... weird, outdated arena with no good seats and what "character" it has is mostly forced down our throats by old TV announcers who were in their prime when Indiana was actually good. Additionally, the crapping on Champaign as a city is hilarious ... Bloomington is a tiny, boring town with a small stretch of nice campus running through it. Champaign, for good and bad, is an actual metro area with legitimate dining and bar options, both in Campustown, Downtown and even Urbana. hper50, ALASKA HOOSIER, Crimson and Cream and 3 others 1 5 Quote

Champaign is Terre Haute with a better mall and more meth. Tell me more about the largest Olive Garden I've ever seen, Nightman! Their awesome bar options are the exact same chain college bars that are in Bloomington, without the actual good bars in Bloomington. A Champaigner's idea of getting a reservation at Janko's is getting the "your table is ready" buzzer at Texas Roadhouse and smashing 3 pounds of free peanuts while they wait for "45-60 minutes". Forgive me also for giving zero credit to their generic concrete UFO with the atmosphere of a TJ Maxx. You want some bad seats? Sit anywhere in the upper level of that place. You might as well be watching the game from outside. We'll call that a wash, at best, but ours is always full so we win. I took my Illinois-grad in-laws to a game at the only Assembly Hall a few years ago when we curb-stomped those sorry ass crybabies and they: enjoyed the arena more than SFC, enjoyed the meal more than anywhere they had been in Champaign, and didn't get shot at. A great time was had by all. Should I get started on The Chief? Stuhoo, Uspshoosier, southsidehoosier and 11 others 9 1 4 Quote

Hovadipo Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Did you guys know The Chief was a sham at every level? It was a totally made up person, tribe, wardrobe, headdress, dance, etc. from a frat kid. Nothing about anything The Chief was or represented was authentic to any Native American culture. The kid that made it up is quoted saying as much. People were CRYING during his final dance, as if we were erasing a piece of history by saying "hey uh...this doesn't feel right". The Chief was, at BEST, a stereotyping misrepresentation of Native Americans. The Chief sucked. thebigweave 1 Quote
