Here I am at a diner in New Jersey thinking about how the current state of Indiana University men's basketball could completely destroy all recruiting momentum. Mgbako transfers and McNeeley decommits (both feasible regardless of weather there is a coaching change IMO) and all it does is scream to the basketball world that the program is a dumpster fire. The first priority IMO of Woody/whoever our head men's basketball coach this offseason (have to let myself believe it's a possibility there's a change after this season, not next) should be to retain Reneau and Mgbako. Reneau I think you've got a fighting shot. Mgbako just screams transfer candidate to me but I hope I'm wrong. Honestly it would suck to blow it all up... but with the portal, especially for a school with our resources, teams and staffs can look totally different year to year. I just want to see the next coach recruit to fit a system and build a culture. Actually run coherent sets and play modern basketball. You can win with lots of kinds of guys, but we never have the right mix/enough of them/we've had them, but the staff has not enabled them. Last night was a no show. After Purdue too? Embarrassing display after embarrassing display.

Every single one of these names are expendable and replaceable if they don’t want to stay good riddance.

Dakich has never been shy about his disdain for Buckner.

I have no opinion of Buckner but the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Buckner means well. But he absolutely abused his power and influence to get his buddy hired who had no business being hired in the first place. He needs to answer for this.

They were kind of lucky this was a Friday game.  If it was Tuesday they would have gotten destroyed in the local media all day long on Wednesday.  That radio program writes itself in the major markets in the state.

DD doesn't have a local radio show any more

He doesn't but Jake Query does and he was letting us have it on Twitter.  He represents the morning drive into work.  JMV wouldn't let that go, he represents the drive home.  The Colts season is over and the two things that drive interest in Indianapolis Sports talk radio are the Colts (by far) and then IU.  They will probably still have this disaster teed up for Monday but people will have had more time to cool off.

Indiana being bad is a bigger story than anyone else in the area being good.  Pissed Hoosiers drive ratings.

@Scotty R

was this your email to the admin? I kid…lol. This guy went on quite the email. Apparently posted on a different board.

To whom It May Concern: My name is Dr. Douglas J. Wilson. I am a two time IU alum and a season ticket holder in both football and basketball. I have been a donor of IU athletics for over 20 years. I am seriously considering severing all ties with my once beloved university. The pride I use to feel as an IU alumni and supporter of the university is gone. I am embarrassed by both the lack of committment and the tolerance of mediocrity to IU athletics by the IU administration. The neglect, mismangement of funds, direct siphoning of funds from the Big Ten tv contract, and the total ignorance of IU athletics over the past 20 years is unacceptable. Specifically, the IU football and basketball programs. The survey of possible football upgrades and what I would be willing to pay for those upgrades has not set well with me. Why would I spend more money and donate more for continued mediocrity. If IU does not want to commit to athletics both financially and administrative support wise then why should I spend anymore money on IU or IU athletics? The contract extension and huge buyout on Tom Allen's contract was a very poor decision. The firing of coach Archie Miller was welcomed by most alumni. But after an extensive search IU hires Mike Woodson. Mike seems to be a nice guy but here are the facts. He had been coaching in the NBA for 35+ years. He was an assistant coach and was a very mediocre head coach. He had not coached in the college game ever. Had he not played at IU he would have never been considered. No other division 1 program would have even considered him as a candidate for the head coach position. But alas, IU did so I tried to support him but its been an abysmal failure. Let's look at the results and where the IU bb program stands 2.75 year later. His roster construction should be a fireable offense. Everyone knows IU needed shooters in the spring. But IU not only didn't land any guards, but Mike chose to enter the season with an unused scholarship. That is neglect of duty and should be a fireable offense. He has failed to land any high school kids, let alone quality shooters in over 2 years, until Liam this year. He appears to hate recruiting and lets the assistants do all the legwork. He chose to have an elective knee procedure during an active recruiting cycle. Thus, he cancelled some visits with recruits and then they chose to go elsewhere. That surgery was elective and could have been done during a dead recruiting period. That is neglect and should be a fireable offense. He runs a slow plodding, pound the ball down load offense. This was a good offense in the 1970's and maybe even the 1980's. But it is 2023. The 3 point shot has changed the college game. In today's game the 3 point shot has to be a major focal point of your offense and Mike has totally ignored that in almost 3 years as a coach. He continues to use NBA type substitutions where you pull all 5 starters and go with a second unit. This isn't the NBA. It's college basketball. 3 starters must be on the floor at all times. There are many games to date where IU had an 8-10 point lead, he pulls 4-5 starters and 5 minutes later we are down by 10 and then we never recover. Everyone knows that except Mike. In addition he appears to be a very low energy and uninspired guy. Our teams reflect that. We seem to be low energy, uninspired, uninterested team. We are very undisciplined. It appears the team is uninspired, lacks motivation, and uninterested in the games. They often look like a team that doesn't care if they win or lose. Since he has been here here we had half the team sneak out of the hotel the night before the Northwestern game, a player caught speeding and going 90 mph up walnut, then when stopped by police tried to change seats with a passenger, we have a player who got in a dispute at Taco Bell because he refused to leave, we have a player that has received multiple technicals, and now three straight game with a flagrant foul and 2 out of the last 3 games a player was ejected for a flagrant 2 foul. There appears to be no accountability and no repercussions. I AM embarrased by our IU bb team. So too is Don Fischer apparently. Does the IU administration even care? It's time to pull the plug on this terrible Mike Woodson experiment. He is too old, too stubborn, too far removed from playing in college to understand how the college game is played. In todays NIL era it's time for IU to dump their holier then thou atttitude and do what's right. Either terminate iis athletic department and stop pretending it cares about athletics OR do what is right and hire the best candidate for the job. IU should be able to spend $10 million/year on its head BB coach. Use that money to get one of Scott Drew, Billy Donovan, or Chris Beard. Or spend $7 million a year on either Dusty May or Porter Moser. I would love to discuss this further with anyone from the IU Administration. Sincerely, Douglas J. Wilson, O.D. IU grad 1993 & 1997

They must have moved him.  He was doing the mornings.  You get my overall point though.  The morning guys would have hit us for it.  Jake would hit us for it from 12-3.  Then JMV would hop on and hit us for it from 3-6.  It would have been a solid day of the takes we are seeing on these boards being aired out the day after the loss.  I think a few days in between will soften the takes a bit.

Exactly. Plus kids have other interests besides basketball that influence them on where to go. The only thing that would maybe sell me is that Woodson was in the NBA so long so he knows people clearly. Hell, he got Kopp an NBA spot for crying out loud.

Connections vs development. Not sure how far that translates...

In almost all scenarios whether different or similar and whether at IU or anywhere else there is just no ACCOUNTABILITY for all the high amounts of money that is thrown around to everyone at the top and or near the top of major organizations.

IU team/s play is a reflection of how the coach and coaching staff as a whole concept and unit perform their coaching duties and responsibilities of job performance.

This used to be the concern for kids going to the NBA, MLB and NFL making tons of money as 20 year olds with no self discipline, money management skills or sense of responsibility... all the NIL has done is move the starting date about 3-4 years earlier for these kids... lots of money and no life skills... can't imagine why NIL and transfer portal haven't been the success everyone thought they'd be. /s

I’m embarrassed too, but he wasn’t embarrassed under Miller? I mean, that was the most embarrassing, poor coaching, pathetic showing from IU in its history at least from the start of the Knight era

Fischer was talking about the cheap shot F2 and ejections, not about the train wreck that is the on floor product.

Nothing Dakich has said about the state of the program is wrong. Hate him for a million other reasons, but the culture that is IU basketball is terrible and he’s been lamenting on it for years.

Guys and girls. It’s been since 98 (the year the building opened) since we beat Wisky at Wisky. Listen, used to, you never worried about these stiffs. It has been since 19 ******* 98. Why can’t we have nice things?

I hate morale wins. But I loved our fight tonight. Week off, is what the doctor ordered. I am very interested in seeing where things finish. I can see 13-7 in B1G. However, it could be as bad as 8-12. I’m really pulling for Woody, I’m so sick and ******* tired of sucking balls. What if we kept kelvin sampson? Do we win at Wisky with Ware? One has to wonder
13-7 that's a joke I assume?

That’s my fear, this team becomes a dumpster fire.  If I were McNeely, why would I come here!  I can see him decommiting.  And Queen, after seeing this display, won’t come.  Embarrassing!!!
Maryland is playing much better now. Be stunned in queen didn't pick them.

Talking about major college programs….It also started with ridiculous rising salaries of coaches, AD’s etc…basically money destroying the foundations of why the college level sports were beloved in the first place.

How about all the facilities, students and fans and all kinds of financial support that is given and provided that makes it all possible to begin with.
