But the holy IU fans that want to kick him off the team for a nut job but cheered with Michael Lewis throwing the ball off people's faces or Dane Fife was biting guys on the floor and tripping them. Yes I know X has had other problems in the cell phone era but these guys did some of the same stuff. I had many IU players drinking at my parties in the 90's who were not 21.

He did like next to nothing wrong at Tennessee. UT was stupid not to ride that out.

It is kind of a truism that the NCAA is really all about making money, and that's highlighted with UM winning the college football championship after Harbaugh was suspended for 6 games, but the idea there isn't cheating? Nope. It's really whether the schools care of just deny deny (e.g., UNC), or the NCAA cares (again UNC, or KU, etc.). I'm in the camp that values academics and ethics, not winning at all costs. Some don't care about ethics, rules or academics. To each his own.

I think he then did not tell the truth about it which was the bigger "crime" but I am sure he was thinking BBQ was smoked meat and sauce vs hot dogs and hamburgers so when he said, no i did not have him over for BBQ was he really lying ?

You aren't the only one saying Pearl would kill it here just using your comment to reply.  I not in the majority here on Pearl what has the guy really done?  His time at Auburn he has missed the tourney more than he has made it.  He has been in trouble multiple times with the NCAA.  Like someone else mentioned his age.  Please someone let me know what I'm missing but I don't think Pearl would do good here.

He missed his first 3 years at Auburn but has made it basically every year since.  The covid year they were ranked as a top 20 team so they would have been in.

That and he told that Craft family to lie about attending said BBQ. He was suspended the first 8 games by Tennessee to try and a limit the blow back from the NCAA but then was fired by Tennessee when one of his players passed a drug test. The NCAA later levied a 3 year show-cause against him. Child's play compared to what has been going on the last several years. Will Wade got a year for openly discussing payments to a player on wiretap.

He's lead both TN and Auburn to #1 rankings at historically tough schools to win at. He brings fire and energy on the sideline. His teams ALWAYS play hard regardless of talent level. He's got 8-10 years left in him which is plenty for me.

My only concern with hiring Pearl would be a succession plan that involves his son Stephen who has been the AHC at Auburn the last few years. Perhaps him leaving to take another job would accelerate Auburn promoting his son to HC.
