Same thing we were told last spring whenever we’d express concerns. I’d be fine firing Woodson tomorrow, honestly. I never liked the hire. It wasn’t a serious blueblood move. It was a Hail Mary to pleases the “we need an IU guy” crowd. We’re mediocre and not at all fun to watch. Unfortunately, we have several more seasons with him and the next guy probably won’t be much better.

Was UNC hiring of Davis a blue blood move or Duke hiring Scheyer

I think I’ve officially had it with this fan base. Absolutely zero guts. Trapped in a state of nostalgia fueled entitlement. Any sign of slight adversity they’re ready to jump ship and hire the next shiny new toy. This fan base doesn’t give a **** about winning they care about coaching searches, hypotheticals and what ifs. Worst thing that the administration could have done is market how smart and how big of ball knowers these fans are. If you hired this fan base to build a house they’d want to start with the roof. I’m not saying this is the best team in the world, but at least they have some mettle which is a lot more than you can say about a lot of you all. Go Damn Hoosiers.

Us pesky fans and our expectations. We should instead be pumped up about our big 1 point home victory over mighty Morehead State.

Kind of…yea. That only happens when you have a coach so successful he gets to handpick his next guy, no matter what.

The next “blue blood move” will be how far they get rid of him when he fails. UNC have Dean’s handpicked guy 3 years. Then the next guy 3 years before they pulled in a major coach.

If Scheyer goes 3/5 on tourney appearances and Duke extends him to give him more time, I’ll definitely say they’ll be flirting with the post-HoF coach IU experience.

I was just being sarcastic that people around here say Woodson is too old but let's hire Pearl who is two years younger.

I would have the same concerns with hiring Pearl or anyone that age. Fwiw, I have always been fine with Woody. If you go back to the coaching search thread, I might have been one of the first to bring him up. Probably the first to defend his record.

But even then, he was never going to be the long term solution. And that’s fine given where the program was. But if IU isn’t working on contingency replacement plans it is tantamount to malpractice. In my humble opinion, of course.

I think it was Barry Alvarez who once said a good AD should always have a list of five coaches in his desk drawer. He knew a little about coaching and hiring them, too.

Nobody is telling you to be pumped about a 1 point win.
At the same time, this is not a "things couldn't get any worse" situation that a lot of people are acting like.
I think his sentiment is more the fact that we're 8-3 and people act like we're 3-8. No team is perfect but riding the ups and downs is part of being a fan. Some people are ready to throw in the towel and give up on this team already. That's goofy too.
Problem wasn't just tonight we beat the other cupcakes by less than 10 as well this year. Big Ten will get really ugly if we play like this mot of the time.

Figured I would post this with all the doom and gloom

An interesting question would be “which fanbase feels better about their team right now: first place IU or last place MSU?”

MSU has had as bad a start as they could’ve imagined but maybe are feeling better after drubbing Baylor? IU has a good start to the conference but not a lot else.

I mean, these frustrations are 20+ years in the making for the fanbase. Been far, far more downs than ups during that period. We’ve seen this same movie play out many times before. Disinterested IU teams comes out with no effort, squeaks out a win against a bad team, rinse, repeat. Nothing about this team or staff inspires confidence in me.

It’s a great question. I honestly don’t know what my answer is. I think we are just a not very good team. It’s been evident in every win, and more so the in big losses. Sometimes not very good teams get up for big games at home. I think it’s far more likely that our not very good team got up for a big home game on Saturday than it is that we showed promise of the team we can be on Saturday. We’ll probably get up for some other big games at home this season. But I don’t see this team having the ability to build a tournament resume from here on out.  I really hope I’m wrong.

I agree with much of that. Otoh MSU has 6 wins and the ability to get two more (although ISU is no gimmee) before conf starts again. They don’t have any terrible losses but would need to go 12-4 from there to get to 20 wins.

Ironically they are at IU for the last game of the conf season. Could be a tourney decider type game for both teams.

I don’t think we’re a very good team so far.

On the other hand you guys are ignoring thst we’re playing without X and starting a true frosh point who doesn’t score and frankly barely assists. X has not been great either this season but he’s a senior, tough proven point. It definitely makes a difference.

Let’s see where we are by mid-conf play. Right now, we really just don’t know
