Fire is something you either have inside of you or don’t. If you have it, money won’t make it go away. Tom Brady’s 45 years old, made hundreds of millions of dollars, and still has as much fire as anyone in the NFL. Our guys play like basketball is a chore they have to get out of the way before they can go do the things they really want to do.

Hate to be an old guy here, but seems like that is part of the "everyone gets a trophy" society today.

And get off my lawn.  :)

This was the first game in a long time we allowed straight line drives over and over.

Greenberg mentioned this yesterday. Said our defense was simply awful.

As has been the case for years…This is another IU team that lacks shooters so if we’re bad on defense, we’re cooked.

I didn't expect to beat Kansas, at all.  I can handle that.  I can't handle how this team, and this has been an issue for years, gets punched then heads for the nearest exit; they just quit and leave behind a display akin to a bathroom stall after too much Taco Bell.

That should be unacceptable, but it clearly isn't.  Play hard, from beginning to end, or get used to sitting.

There’s a massive difference between expecting to win and at least competing. TJD tried talking the Rutger game into a win but when it got hard we tucked tail.

At least we made a run in a few of those games to get it to single digits! We tried..

A few thoughts

1). With the injury to X I really think Tamar needs to be a starter. It might take some lumps here and there but starting JHS and Tamar next to each other has the potential to develop into something that could make our offense way way better.

2). We absolutely need more leadership out of Trayce and Race.

3). Malik needs to play more. He screws up some but he needs to play through it. Who cares if he's in foul trouble let him foul out and get more comfortable on the floor. Don't hate the idea of seeing more of Gunn and Banks either they're athletic and talented and it's not like we're getting a ton out of Geronimo and Galloway plays well maybe 1 out of 3 games.

4). I'm HOPING that getting our @$$ beat like that will be a wake up call going into the meat of the schedule. If the team learns from that and grows from it then it was worth it. That's why we play those games early on. The way we played was unacceptable but it's an opportunity to learn rather than beating up on North Florida or Merrimack.

Sorry. Gunn and Banks are nowhere near ready. They'll get playing time during the next two games but that will be it for a while. BTW, Galloway has had a couple of good games--20 points against Nebraska. He didn't do anything against Arizona or Kansas but nobody did.

Them being nowhere near ready isn't much different if the guys that are "ready" don't produce. Galloway is fine but he's very inconsistent

I'm to the point that I'd start them and hopefully light a fire under some butts.  They may not be ready but I don't see how that's any worse than the others not producing (or showing up).

Exactly, if others aren't producing, we might as well start developing our athletic and talented freshman.

But they may turn the ball over 23x oh wait we already did that. I do agree with giving them more playing time but not necessarily starting them. I think giving them minutes with the starters and not just at the end of the game with the end of the bench. We may need them in a game situation in the future and this would give them experience with the group. Would also help with the on court teaching as the experienced guys could instruct and correct in real time.

To me Galloway is your cliche "role player's often only play well at home". It is cliche but it also is often true and I think he fits that bill.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed Galloway used to play with an edge and this is what made him so valuable to the team off the bench. He still plays hard but seems to have lost something?

I would agree to an extent. I believe fire is similar to leadership in many ways. There are some natural born leaders who just lead. They might not be able to explain why or how but they know what it takes to make others better and a group of individuals a team. Similarly, there are players who only know how to play hard. They don't understand taking a play off or not giving maximum effort in everything they do. However, there are people who can develop into leaders in the right environment with the right people guiding them. Playing with fire can be taught to an extent in the right environment where you're surrounded by players who won't accept okay effort and force you to raise your level.

We don't have the environment or culture for either at this time. We have a team who accepts 3 or 4 senior+ who are cool with giving some effort or giving some leadership but when things start to go sideways quickly rollover. Has the next batch who will take over the team next year and beyond seen this and get pissed about it enough to change or have they learned it's acceptable and will continue with business as usual?

He plays that way at home but not on the road

Perhaps, but Galloway is still better than Gunn and Banks at this point. Gunn's name is an apt one but, unfortunately, he is shooter not a shot maker. Both of them are quite lost on defense.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I like the potential of Gunn and Banks but neither is ready imo.

Never turned an IU BBall game off before the end of the half.....until yesterday. Acutally turned it off at the 8 min mark. Over 50 yr as a fan. Worst effort I've ever seen from an IU team from the sampling replay I've seen.

Was it any worse than the game we lost at Minnesota in 94 by 50 points.
