Game Thread: Indiana vs. Arizona (12/10) 7:30 p.m. EST on Fox

I was meaning big ten. The ifs this season are MUCH smaller than years prior
I'll agree with that for the most part. We're certainly closer to that goal than we have been in 7 years. I'm just sick of "ifs and buts". HS science teacher always said "if if's and buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a merry Christmas"

Yes.

He had several wide open 15 footers and the defender actually backed up giving him even more room (and clogging the paint). He has been GREAT for the program but man it would be a game changer if he could keep the defense honest from 15 feet. He doesn’t need to hit threes but a 15 footer would be a great addition.

In those instances TJD just shoot a freaking foul shot you can do that they are so far off you.

I’m not sure what evidence we have yet that we are a top 25 team. The rebounding tonight was mostly our bigs getting out muscled. JHS I’m sure makes an impact but it don’t think he impacts much of any of their offensive boards.

I’d absolutely love to have a team that is showboating down the court while the opposing team’s star is dazed on the floor at the other end (this is NOT a shot at TJD, unlucky on his part but a microcosm or the game), and blowing kisses to the crowd (who is decidedly in favor over the other team) after draining another dagger three. Give me this all day.

I mean…we were kinda doing that to UNC. UNC isn’t a top 25 team tho.

Whats our evidence? Not much because our schedule sucks.…I’ll stop harping tho. But we’re 16 on kenpom. That shouldn’t change too much after today. UNC win was ok as was Nebraska. The win at Xavier is a legit good win.

Who do you think should be in the top 25 over us?

He’s not exactly developed this year. He was a very good looking promise last year.

I might get even more hate for thinking there is a lack of player development at IU, but he's sort of running short on time isn't he? Unless he's going to use a Covid 5th year he's already a junior and a bit of a tweener with his size. He's the most athletic player when he steps on the floor but just hasn't put it all together. Reminding me a lot of Perea

He doesn’t bring anything offensively and is a really undersized 4 against a team like that.

Playing for a team who needs him to play the 3. Woodson had him out there at the spot in the 2nd half for a bit but was short lived

If he could shoot the ball he probably could because I think he’s progressed some in the other areas. He’s really struggling this year tho. And Kopp and Bates are probably our best shooters so taking mins from them will be hard.

Title contender? You're asking what we need to be a title contender? Yeah I'm not on that field with ya man. Can we win the B1G? Maybe but that doesn't mean we're title contenders nor does it mean we ever were. I'm not putting that kind of expectation on this season. Again I'll be happy to be top 3 B1G and possibly a 2nd weekend 4/5 seed team.

Typo in my part -- it was that the current 'big ifs' were what needed to beat title contenders, not 'be' title contenders.

It’s a great question. And honestly I don’t know the answer. Damn you for interrupting my pouting with logic. But the fact remains, even if there aren’t enough teams who have definitively proven they are a top 25 team ahead of us, we certainly haven’t definitively proven we are worthy of a top 25 spot either. FFS that sentence was too long.

Geronimo is not a Power 5 conference player. Great athleticism but completely lost on the court. Reminds me of Hanner Parea.

I said the same thing! Love some of the things JG can do, but one thing that I keep noticing is he will often struggle catching the ball which was always a thing that stood out to me when Perea was playing.

We’re close.  Their guards don’t get what they got with JHS.  Big difference between JHS fighting over a ball screen as compared to Bates/Xavier.  On the other end he could have gotten what he wanted against their starting guards similar to the UNC game.

I think our backcourt and wings are better than what they got.  The problem is their two bigs.  We couldn’t guard them.  TJD is going to give up buckets against that kind of size but seeing him not rebound and not getting up and down the floor is pretty disappointing.

Not being a 25 minute player doesn't mean he isn't a Power 5 conference player.

Arizona's size should have been the perfect opportunity for him to see the floor though no? 8 minutes seems a bit light especially with TJD having an off night. He need Race to play poorly or get in foul trouble to see the floor more than 8 minutes? Just odd to me looking at the box score. Bates having the night he did and IU playing from behind and needing more offense likely played a role. Just 8 minutes makes me feel bad for him as he came back and now has all this talent in front of him at the 4 and 5

Agreed. Not saying that. But he’s not getting anywhere near 25 min.
I don’t think he’s a power 5 conference player. He’s clueless on the court and this is his 3rd year with the program.

The 16 on Pom, BTW, is after today.  In terms of the non-conference, the bad teams we've played are bad but Arizona, North Carolina, and Xavier are 12, 25, and 29 on Pom.  People act like North Carolina wasn't a good win because of their losing streak, but it was a sting of four losses away from home in quad one games and of those four games, no one beat them like IU did.
