14 games! IU winning games good teams are supposed to win. I miss those two seasons. Lol.

Yes that's really good by IU standards. But it's not "buyout on the same tier as national champions" level of good.

The benefit of hindsight allows all of us to make judgment. I wish I had that benefit when buying stocks for my Roth IRA. Lol. I don't think we'd be upset about the deal inked if IUFB were in the 2019 and 2020 state of things. But that's just me.

Won the games but we were 1-7 those two years against anyone with a winning record.

Yep. They managed to get a W to a team "equal" or "better" to them one of those years.  I'm not understanding the point. They won more games than they lost.  How is this a negative thing?

This post...wow. Nobody waits for any coach to prove himself anymore. When programs see something that appeals to them, they want it and they want it 10 years ago. There was very much a buzz surrounding Allen and IU football in 2020. Other AD's didn't see the flaws that some of our fans harped on for years. Did you ever consider that maybe we overpaid because others were showing interest? Not everything that happens in the athletic department ends up on the Internet. This is an incredibly myopic post.

I remember the Florida St rumors……laughable.

Because normally, the smart thing is to not give giant contracts for mediocre results or for expected results. It's for overachieving. Allen did not over achieve. He beat a bunch of bad teams and lost to anyone with a pulse.

If we are going to be discussing all the reasons why Tom Allen shouldn't have been hired/should be fired, this is going to be a very long season.

And think of how many posts we've already had in this thread after just one game and a game that virtually no one expected us to win anyway.

I think people just like to sh*tpost and they pick IU football because it's low-hanging fruit.

For IUFB standards he absolutely achieved. He had his team ranked 11th overall and would have qualified for next year's CFP.  Now if you don't think that's an achievement then I got nothing for ya. Regarding contracts, it not his fault. He just signed the dotted line. Lol.

I don't believe Indiana was in that Top 12 for the CFB playoff. There was quite the uproar about Indiana getting passed over by teams like Iowa State.

Well, they were ranked 11th by the end of the season and had Penix not been injured they most likely finish the final rankings in the top 10.  But it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Today his team isn't remotely close to the 2019 and 2020 teams. The wheels have fallen off since then.

This team could probably win 4-6 games... Biggest problem is clearly Walt Bell. He's a moron. There's a reason he has never been successful at any stop.

While I understand your frustration with that, IU football has never won those games.  I'm 57 years old, and I was an IU student during Mallory's best years.  Yes, he beat Ohio State and Michigan when they had relatively down years, but he rarely even competed against anyone really good.  He was 1-39 against teams that finished in the top 3 of the Big 10.  And Mallory is the standard-bearer.  Now, you're welcome to demand a new coach every few years and have expectations that IU football has never come close to meeting, but 50 years of IU football tell me you're wasting your time.  And you're welcome to tell me I'm "happy with mediocrity," which is always the go-to line, but I'm not happy with it.  It's simply called facing reality.

That's what I'm thinking as well. If we get six wins CTA isn't going anywhere. But I do wonder if we don't go bowling this year will CTA get let go. We'll see it all play out for sure.

Same boat. And to add, Mallory never achieved a 2020 type season, ever.

Historically, since the last 100 years there's only been one IUFB HC (McMillin) that was .500 or above overall. And of all the coaches since Mallory, CTA's overall record is the best.

It's nice to see folks on here wanting something better than CTA. I really appreciate that because I too have a desire to become a solid football program. But also have come to the realization that isn't likely to occur in my lifetime.

That's awesome... But that still proves the point that Allen should have never been offered what he was. Dolson majorly screwed up. There was a reason he wasn't a hot name for any bigger programs... Or really any programs at all. Clearly other ADs seen the flaws.
