Ryan Day says a million for a QB, a million for an LT, a Million for a pass rusher, and then spread the rest of the 10 million to the rest of the team.

He did say that but Day is competing for guys looking at Bama, A&M, Georgia, Texas, Clemson,  etc.

The type of guys that require that much cash were NEVER going to IU before NIL. They were going to the top 10-12 programs prior to NIL and that’s where they are going to go now.

We need cash, nowhere near 13mm,  to be competitive to land guys looking at Purdue, Maryland, Iowa etc.

If we're stuck with Allen and his team of walkons next year, I can find a definite silver lining.

You know that feeling you get when you waste your beautiful Saturday watching IU football only to be pissed off that you did?  You're all IU football fans, of course you do.

Now we can just skip the game and go play outside instead!  It's a refreshing feeling.

There is nothing positive with the program right now and I can’t believe anyone thinks Allen can turn it around.  If you follow the program you could see this coming.  A competent AD would not have allowed Walt Bell to be hired but there is zero accountability.  Its crickets out of the administration.  They could have moved and given a new coach the chance to talk to the players before transferring.  Either the AD doesn’t care or is incredibly incompetent.  My guess is they pretended to care for a bit.  It’s easy to just say it’s IU football but we aren’t even on Rutgers’ level anymore.  If you believe other sites Allen himself was trying to jump ship. No one else will be dumb enough to take him for us

Sounds better than saying "I screwed up and now we can't afford to fire him".

I see it going something like this…..

Scene: Dolson with a stoned/cold face .

“Tom Allen is our football coach for the foreseeable future. This guy has built this program to a level it’s hasn’t been in a long time. I don’t even need to give a vote of confidence because his job is fully secured. One of the best coaches in schools history…. If not one of the best in the country today. We should be lucky this university has the opportunity to have him as coach. No doubt in my mind IU will be where it once was. This program is building and the future looks bright.”

Given that it's IU football, I wouldn't be surprised to see the AD double down on the s****y product. Knowing that everyone in the world knows it's jut a matter of time before Allen is fired, they'll not only give Allen a verbal vote of confidence but also announce a contract extension that will guarantee that IU can't afford to fire him until 2040 at the earliest. The administration will then pat themselves on the back thinking, "That should do it. Now recruits won't be afraid to come here thinking the HC will be fired in 2 years. They will know he'll be here they whole time they are."

All venting aside:

I would fully expect that there is an actuarial exercise going on right now; a comparison of the amount of revenue that will be lost, both in donations and ticket/concession sales, versus the cost of an early settlement with Tom Allen.

That's real world.

If there isn't, we've got even bigger problems!

Exactly. So IMO the posts that posit that IU is just gonna keep on keeping on without in-depth analysis are completely over-simplistic.

NIL might be an even bigger problem. No way we are competing in that arena with the big boys. If we somehow how get a really good player, someone higher up the food chain will poach him. We are football's "catch 22". No one wants to invest in a terrible program and without investment we will stay a terrible program.
