Gotta figure out what they want to do with this. Last night was a super cool idea. Scrimmages are fun but the timing and marketing weren’t right. I love the transparency though.

The HH scrimmage, if it even happened, usually sucked. Proving that they’re going to get after it will probably lead to better attendance going forward. I think they have a good formula to build on.

This is a team of high IQ basketball players from what I’m seeing.  Played tough defense tonight and seem to understand the game well.  Quick instincts and great energy.

Small sample but Alexis was way better than I imagined at this point.  Very impressed with Wilkerson, Connerway, Bailey, Sisley and Tucker.
This looks like a tough rugged basketball team that will be bringing their lunch pail day in and day out.

You can tell they have something to prove.

What’s that I hear? Well coached?

Yes please. Yes.

Here are the highlights fwiw.  This is close to the old camera angle, which is kinda cool.

Attendance was sparse, but I think @Hoosierfanyuh's summary of events made a lot of sense.  This was for the IUBB junkies, and I suspect a lot of IUBB junkies got their early fix from the Puerto Rico games, or they may be looking forward to the exhibitions vs actual opponents.  I'm in that camp -- I want to see the Baylor game to get a real read on this team.

And of course, a pretty big chunk of our fanbase is "dormant" after a rough decade, especially after Woody, and it will take time and wins to wake them up and get them back.  Wins will by far matter most, but aside from that CDD is doing the right things with the fanbase relationship, which is nice to see after the last four years.

Yeah, that angle brings back memories. 1 little thing in there, they’ve been working on Conerway’s shooting footwork. Watch the Troy video from last year and he just struggled with balance because his feet were so close together and he was never gonna be consistent with that. The 2 in this video are better and the 2nd one is absolutely what they want. If that kid can just get to mid-30’s so guys have to respect him he’s gonna create some problems.

In just a few short clips from the event/practice — inside out with a p&r to a 3, perimeter ball swing to the open 3, inside to top of the key, hesitation step back 3, an alley oop, rotations, communication….

Yeah, actual coaching, actual actions, sets for shooting, guys playing hard in a HH scrimmage. We have turned the page

I keep hearing that our defense is subpar. Examples given are the first teams inability at times to stop second team and even managers from scoring. So while it was nice to see the clips of us scoring I have to admit to wondering how we will do vs tough D. I am hopeful that our D can be tough because the coaches will demand effort on that side of the ball. That, for me, seems to be the backbone of how much success we can have.

I totally agree that defense is a big question mark based on early reports. I also think for the team to have success, our defensive efficiency has to be at a certain level. But, I think in this era of basketball especially, if you have to pick one or the other to be better at... I'd pick offense every time. That's why I'm excited to watch this team in year 1. Need to see the team grow throughout the course of the season on both sides of the ball and I'll be over the moon about the future of IUBB.

CBS polled 100 college coaches who made the best off season hire.

McCollum lead in votes, then Will Wade, then Sean Miller.  They made up 68% of the votes.

next 3. Ryan Odom-Virginia, Buzz Williams, Niko Medved.

others receiving multiple votes. Kevin Willard, Ross Hodge, and Alex Jensen.

Wild to me.  Even as a “realist” this one is shocking.

time will tell and time will tell soon.

McCollum wasn’t even their first choice?
