All this talk about Michael Lewis to IU is so premature.  He could crap the bed at BSU.  Woody could decide to coach until he's the second coming of Jim Boeheim in terms of age.   So many unknowns to start anointing anyone as our next head coach.

Of course, we have no idea if woody will be here 1 more year or 10, likely somewhere in between. We have no idea if Lewis will be primed and ready to go or if he flamed out.

…and this is why IU basketball has been mediocre for years. You have to always be aware of what else is happening and have contingency plans.

That’s right, IU has to be thinking about our next coach and networking at all times - be ready so you don’t have to get ready mindset.

they should always have a short list ready and already understand the likelihood that list is realistic.

im not pining for woody to leave but regardless of success, he has a shorter expiration date than most other hires

Absolutely. Plus...speculating who the coach will be after our current coach who is in his 2nd year is just weird. 

I can see us replacing an asst or two in the next 2-3 years. We should focus there.

Chalk it up to Mike Lewis having a stellar 1st year at Ball U.  We wouldn't be discussing this if the Cards were 6-19.

I know we all have short memories, but it was barely a month ago that many on here were trying to force him into retirement. 
All I’m saying is that when you hire a coach in his mid 60’s, you’re not exactly playing the long game. He could decide after any season that he’s ready to retire. Just because it’s not the plan, doesn’t mean it won’t or can’t happen. The administration has to be aware of their options.

Don't disagree that Dolson needs to have theoretical sucession plans in mind for the major sports but anointing Lewis as the heir apparent is just foolish.  Akin to Fife being anointed as coach in waiting when he was hired.
