Dane Fife leaves IU staff

They use consultants quite a bit in SEC football. Saban at Alabama has a bunch. And pro sports including the NBA uses consultants. Obviously in the business world consultants are used all the time. I was a business consultant once. No benefits, but a nice side gig.

Right, but I would hope your consultants have some experience in what they are consulting for.  Woody has his NBA buddies who have the same issue as him -- lack experience in college.  Mata on the other hand, a college lifer, is already on staff.  Doesn't add up.

I don't think the Fife news will matter to anyone that matters within a week or two. Assuming IU hires a competent replacement, keeps enough of the current roster, and makes a nice recruiting splash to finish off the 2022 class. Coaches, players, and recruits won't care that he's no longer on staff. Will there be fans disappointed that he's no longer on staff and in position to be the heir to Woodson? Sure, but so what.

Although, I do wish Woodson was a little gentler in his statement towards Fife.

Fife isnt a chief lol

He isn't close to a chief.

problem is he thought he was.

In hindsight it was a bad move to force the head coach to hire an assistant coach who essentially "applied" to be the head coach.

Yes, Dolson made it clear to Dane that he was working for Woodson. The next head coach would be decided when that time came. But instead, he went around Assembly Hall, around the state, around to anyone who would listen that the coach was going to get fired and he was going to be the head coach. He was rooting or hoping for this scenario. Actually telling AAU coaches that Woodson didn't know what he was doing. Are you Ok with that at your job?

I would need those actions confirmed.  Unless Fife is a complete idiot, I doubt it was actually that way.

Actually the majority of the people I've talked to and read messages from think this is good after hearing the whole story. But we get to decide how we feel about things.  I don't want a coach who is telling recruits to not come to IU, telling recruits that the NIL is bad and they don't deserve it.

But you're not hearing the whole story.  That's the point.  Context matters.

Or Fife is a complete moron.

From knowing the people involved I choose B

As crazy as it sounds I am inclined to agree.

Loved Fife as a player but all the podcasts I have listened to where players talk about playing with Fife talk about how much of an idiot he was.

OK, so we're going with the "unless you have actual quotes, a tape recording, and a written confession from Dane Fife then I refuse to believe anything that was said!" defense. Got it.

Reminds of of a certain Chappelle's show skit.

Again, what are you talking about? I as well as others have asked you to lay it all out there yet we continue to get cryptic one offs vs the whole and detailed list.

Solid early on but go on their premium board and they were nit surprised.   Most were saying if he wouldn’t of gone to IU when he did that izzo would of moved away from him in his own staff changes

There are different angles here.

They're much like us in they're great if we have them turrrble if they are no longer part of the program. I don't have access to their premium board and don't really care to have access. Further, we got someone's leftovers they didn't want again? There are many ways to play the game. It seems like we're behind the curve quite often.

This is tough for me tbh. Again, I think there are two sides to all of this and can use one very specific example.
there was a charity golf outing where someone was paired up with Fife. They did not know each other but were obviously both IU fans and that became the basis of the conversation for the day.

Dane suggested that Woodson had no idea what he was doing and that he and the rest of the staff had to educate him on EVERYTHING, how things work, when, why, what they could and couldn’t do wtc. That is two things, could be looked at as insubordination and throwing your coach and school under the bus or really scary and thank goodness he and others were there to guide. The positive to what he said was that He had been around a lot of coaches and none were able to close a recruit and his family like Woody. So it’s not like it was all bad, he told it like it was, the good and the bad.

if he rubbed Woody the wrong way, it’s easy to stockpile an Arsenal of negatives about Fife or really anyone when you have a year to do that.

So they are like every fan message board for the team not just IU.    Haven’t found a fan message board yet that isn’t like that

He's toxic and frankly not good enough to get us over the hump, IMO. Everything Ive heard or read about him screams "mini Dan Dakich." IU needs to separate itself from those types. Everyone has worked with someone like Fife. The misery loves company type. Glad Woodson shitcanned him.

Dakich just said exactly what I said -- that Rabjohns' story was the story IU wanted to get out.  If you guys don't understand this I can't help you.  Again, it is exactly why Rabjohns was on an island saying IU never tried to hire Chris Holtmann when literally everyone else was saying they did.  You have to be able to recognize the difference between journalism and public relations.

I don't care to search other message boards. I'll take your word for it. Regardless, it's not a good look for anyone.

Wow, so we want from insubordination to actively spreading false rumors that Woody was incompetent and would be fired or was this one of the facts that we knew about and discussed throughout the season? Good times. Can't wait to see where this goes in a few more hours.
