(2022) PG Adou Thiero to Kentucky

Recommended Posts

A call isn't an offer.  And it sounds like his father is pretty grounded -- he's likely going to look to send his kid where he fits best.  It's also not a player that Cal typically offers -- he doesn't have to take chances on players.  UK also does already have a combo guard and a wing that are coming in that are 7th and 8th overall in the class.
Adou's father went to Memphis when Cal coached, but as Almamy (Adou's dad) puts it, he 'majored in injuries in college'.  His first two years at Memphis he played in just a total of 5 games for a total of 18 minutes, scoring 1 point over those two years.  His junior year he played in 23 games -- pretty much in garbage time -- totalling 115 minutes and scoring just 12 points all year.  He transfered for his fourth year as a graduate student, playing 15 games at Duquesne, getting 12 minutes per game and 2 1/2 ppg.
His medical issues:
freshman year at Memphis:  had a metal rod placed in his tibia from an injury suffered in practice.  Given a medical hardship waiver.
sophomore year:  in mid December blood clots discovered in his lungs.  Missed the rest of the year.
junior year:  first year he was healthy.  Played in 23 games, averaged 0.5 ppg.
senior year (first senior year):  ACL injury the summer before the season.  Never played.
second senior year (after transferring to Duquesne):  Final was in a rotation, getting 12 minutes per game for the first half of the year before blood clots were once again found in his lungs.  Decided to call it a career.

Damn, that’s tough

Quaker Valley defeated Belle Vernon 86-75.  Kid from QV who averages 8 ppg went berserk and scored 36.  Thiero only scored 4 in the first half but finished with a triple double of 21 pts; 10 reb; 10 assts and 7 blocked shots.  With his 21 pts., Thiero moved into 3rd place on the All Time Quaker Valley Career Scoring List.  Adou’s career total is now 1,570 points.

Have you seen full games of his? Who is a good player comp? Are his skills easily translatable to high major ball, or is he putting up huge numbers vs low comp looking impressive a la Ethan Morton?

Hopefully he’s been watching some must-see B1G tourney tv

Tom Crean says he compares to Dwyane Wade.

I scribbled up a way too long eval of him on pg 2 or 3 of this thread.

Quaker Valley (27-0) trailed for most of the game and by as many as 16 in the 3rd Q until mounting a 4th quarter rally to beat Archbishop Carroll 67-60 to advance to the PIAA 4A state championship next Thursday night against Neumann-Goretti.  The only stat I've seen for Thiero is he scored 20.

The difference in social media engagement for his IU good luck post compared to the OSU/Pitt ones is staggering. Go Hoosiers

Football season at both of those schools

Watching Thiero’s state championship game. Cal and Orlando Antigua are there, though sitting behind the other bench. May also be watching a 6’8” ‘23 named Sultan Adewale, who’s a great looking athlete.
Side note: This is a state championship game being played in a 10,000 seat arena and I doubt if there are 1,000 in the gym.
