I agree with Stu here...his shot is nothing like Xavier Johnson...he shoots it from a little lower than ideal, and its not the prettiest, but it looks 10 times better than X.  X shoots from a low slot and is almost a 1 handed shot put.

Yeah maybe. But XJ’s set shot and pull up are different.

All I know is it’s not pretty and he is shooting 31% from three.

I find it amazing that X can be 34% from three and almost 75% from the line with that shooting form. I guess it's a tribute to his concentration!

Yeah he makes it work that is for sure.

The first thing I look at in a highlight video is the shooting form. Just a habit I guess since our team is full of colorful mechanics and has been for awhile unfortunately

Colorful's a very polite way to put it.

Not enough kids from Indiana....although Galloway's isn't great form either. Leal has nice form for sure. Just seems weird that kids have so many different ways to shoot. I have two sons 3 and 8. My biggest thing is making them stay close to the basket and don't try to shoot on too high of a rim, so they can keep proper form, and not start throwing it up there....hopefully it pays off. Right now they both have pretty good form. My senior year in high school, seems like forever ago, I avg. just under 18 ppg and shot 54% from the floor.  Seeing all these players who shoot 40-44% from the field kill me lol I know college is different, but I feel like if you aren't shooting 46% or better from the floor overall, then you probably are shooting bad shots, or taking too many...but I know basketball is different than it used to be.

As bad as his form is, he doesn't ever take a contested three and you can physically see him trying to line his shot up when he does shoot one.  Ultimately, he's not a liability from three which considering his mechanics is a positive.

Can he hit outside shots??? Even with his foot?

High school stats:

Freshman year: 7.5 points per game,  2.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists

Sophomore year:  17.7/4.3/3.4

Junior year:  21.8/5.2/5.1

Senior year:  25.1/9.3/5.8

Shooting:  career 55% from two, 36% from three, 49% overall.  Pretty good free throw shooter -- 80% career.  I haven't seen that he has an IU offer.  Probably like Ohio State and IU, teams are taking a look because of the growth spurt.  At 6'1", probably not a D1 player.

He's 6'6" now and projected 6'10". Grew 5 inches in roughly the last 2 years.

Came for the unofficial and plans to schedule an official. Something could happen quickly with his recruitment, as he only has 3 more months of high school.

Where did you see someone projecting him to 6’10”? I’ve not seen that and if it’s true it really changes how you look at him.

That would project him to "full court press sign him up" status.

Any extremely productive point guard that suddenly gets to 6'8"+ and is a good kid (and he apparently is very much that) is a rare and excellent find.

I wasn’t trying to say he wasn’t a D 1 player.  I was saying the growth spurt has helped fuel teams desires to give him a look.

Yeah if he's no better than 31% now as a senior in high school. We can't continue to be horrible shooters from deep. If you look at most of who we are recruiting, the numbers aren't great except for a slim few.

Isn't that what happened to Anthony Davis???

I don’t have Hood Shifino’s numbers this year, but he was at 45% from deep as a freshman and the 5 games that Monteverde entered team stats for him as a sophomore he was at 52%.  I don’t have Kaleb Banjs senior numbers but he was 40 of 105 last year (38%).  Not finding stats on others.

Three things to throw a wrench in HS/AAU 3pt% discussions:

1. Data’s unreliable and hard to find, as @brumdog45 illustrates.

2. Sometimes whether a guy has a green light at all is an important indicator developmentally.

3. I recall chasing down #s for Lander’s HS and AAU shooting. Across more than a couple hundred attempts he was 38%: very good for high volume. But so far, he’s 29% career. His whole frosh year was a shooting funk, yes, but that’s the point
