I also really just don't see this MSU team as one that is going to overwhelm us with skill. They are a classic gritty Izzo team that just wins. If we can match their intensity and get a few bounces to go our way I don't think it's unrealistic that we win.

We've had some success turning teams over and getting easy buckets. MSU has a tendency to turn it over a lot. It's possible. MSU will be extremely physical with whizzo complaining about every foul. Will we respond to the physicality of the game?

Relaxed Hoosierfan is back, we will win the next 7. Book it.

After 1 year making this account on here, I just now realized that I am missing the “I” in Hoosier

So you're saying the same company that made our football unis made your account name?

Yep biggest thing is going to be matching the physicality and also responding to the inevitable first punch in the mouth they're going to hand us

The teams you named are the teams that win. I want IU to be a team that wins. The top 10 is a who’s who of skirting the rules. Auburn, Arizona, UK, Houston, Duke, Kansas, Baylor. Of the top 10 right now, you’ve got Gonzaga, Purdue, and Texas Tech as the arguably ‘clean’ programs, and Gonzaga gave their coach a slap on the wrist for a DUI. I want the team I root for to be a winner. I’m tired of hanging our hats on being a program that “does things the right way” while we miss the tournament year after year. Fans are left to talk about our program being virtuous because it’s all we have. And not even that is really true when you look at some of our recruiting under Archie and Crean.

Yup.  100% correct. It’s funny to hear all this talk when you know how recruiting goes.  Winners win.  And find ways to win.  And keep winning. Losers make excuses.

That’s all the more reason a team like Purdue over the last however many years has been impressive.

Should be the wildest opposing crowd a lot of these guys have ever played in front of. Weekend afternoons at Breslin are tough.

I'm more concerned with the second-half stumble like we've seen against Wiscy, Iowa, Ill, and NW. I have little doubt we come out with our hair on fire. I have my doubts we'll sustain it.

I optimistically wonder if the suspension helps change that from here on. Feel like it could be a tone setter that if you're gonna play for this team you better be locked in at all times

Our recipe to win?  Hope the other team doesn’t hit 3s. Hope we can dominate in the paint.  Hope we don’t get down 7-8 in the second half.   And magicially find some offense somewhere if Trayce doesn’t go for 25.

Agreed. Until I see 40 minutes of effort at ¾ throttle, we'll continue to get our a$$es handed to us. So far I haven't seen more than 1-2 games where we played one complete half at ¾ throttle, much less full throttle. NW game was as close as I've seen.

I don't think we even need to go full motion offense this season, a little movement will go a long way. What is concerning is we've seen this for how many games now? What has changed? This should have been addressed early in the season so we would be seeing that slightly more dynamic offense. We haven't seen that. Why? Those are the small adjustments a good program makes throughout the season. We still watch Trayce go full one on the whole world too often. It worked against smaller, less physically gifted noncon opponents and teams that didn't scout us all that great. It even worked against some lesser Big 1.o opponents or ones finding their legs after a COVID pause.

I agree but we haven’t and I think that is primarily CMW structuring the offense too much around Trayce and, like I mentioned above, his offensive limitations.  I think CMW feels that Trayce is his horse and he’s going to keep riding that horse.  That part is where CMW can stop doing and start getting guys to move.

For some reason our offense seemed to play better when Trayce was saddled in foul trouble.  Hmmmm, I wonder why.

For me, that is quite the optimistic outlook. We have a new coach that wants to return the culture to winning ways. That tone is much easier to set early in your tenure than later. The benching of the starters against a cupcake could have been the tone setter. P Stew's first suspension could have been the tone setter. Durr's first sitting (was it a suspension?) could have been the tone setter. The team meeting after the PSU game could have been the tone setter. This suspension could be the tone setter. Eventually we'll land on a tone setter, or not.

They're not mutually exclusive and could actually benefit Trayce if done well. It also makes Trayce look even more limited because he can't/won't pass out of the post. Chicken-egg, does Trayce not pass because there is no movement or is there no movement because Trayce doesn't pass. We're getting into the difficult part of our schedule and the end of the season is creeping up. It has and is a concern for more than just this season.

With that said, I hope we go out and land all the talented players that can win their match-ups. We might need them.

I just hope Woodson is not seen as Mr. Discipline and players stop wanting to play for him. I am not against players following the rules and the punishments necessarily.

I just worry Woodson could develop a reputation as a coach who is no fun to play for which could hurt recruiting. I guarantee you similar stuff is overlooked at other schools, and if Woodson starts becoming like Knight when it comes to keeping college students in line this will not fly in this era. I support a lot of what Knight did and I hope Woodson employs a lot of it. He just needs to remember he is in a day and age where punishing for this kind of stuff like Knight would is not always looked fondly upon by parents and players. One of the reasons Knight fell off at end is because he was seen as to tough and don't want that to happen to Woodson.

There is a tricky line to toe here and something I think Woodson is figuring out and time will tell if players or coach crossed the line with these suspensions.

There is NO worry there. Woody has a great smile, and he uses it all the time. Players love the guy.

Not much to figure out. "These are the rules which we live by. Break them, you pay the price, follow them, no worries". It gains respect, and long term kids know the guy doesn't have "favorites", and is fair and balanced. One game sit-out is pretty mild. The fact that he had the kahunas to sit 5 guys at once is the REAL message.

Woodson has coached pro athletes. I have a lot more faith in him being able to figure this stuff out then somebody like Archie Miller.

Teams are shooting 30.7% from three against us.  While we tend to have a three point deficit because we don't shoot many, our defense against the three has been decent.  Average game has been giving up 7 from 23 from three.  It's not much difference in conference -- we're giving up 32% and 7 makes per game.

The true reason threes hurt us is because we don't make them  at a great rate and we don't shoot them much.  It's a shame, because we finally have contained the turnovers.....we're under 10 per game in conference play.

A one game bench embarrassment for breaking basically the one road game rule everyone knows not break? Yeah, not worried about anything in this post in the slightest.
