Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBB @ Penn State - 01/02/22 @ 4:00 on BTN

TJD is averaging 19 points, so it's obvious he can score.

But I thought two points of emphasis this season would be him going to his right and developing a mid-range jumper. I haven't seen evidence of either.

He had the ball on a high pick and roll and after keeping it, he was 18 feet from the bucket and nobody was within 5 feet of him. He HAS to be able to not only take that shot -- but make it.

I don’t know but it did not look like we were even breaking a sweat or otherwise cared much.

That’s not the problem… or so it’s been stated on here.

Defense is a good indicator of effort. We’re great on defense, when we play bad shooting teams that can’t hit when wide open.

Rebounding is an indicator of effort. PSU just owned us.

We’re not very good but we shouldn’t be losing to PSU. PSU is not that great and hadn’t played for three weeks? I guess they weren’t as rusty as we hoped.

There’s no way in hell this is a tournament team and we even sniff, yes sniff, 7th place in this league

I’m not giving up hope just yet. We could very easily be 13-0 right now. Two one-possession losses and a collapse at Wisky that should’ve been a win. This team has enough talent, they just haven’t clicked yet.

They swung for the fences. They just missed. Badly.

They swung for the fences on Brad Stevens, missed, and decided to lay down the bunt on the next pitch. I can’t for the life of me believe that Mike Woodson was the best we could do after missing on Stevens, but maybe IU really is as crappy of a job as they say.

I’m to the point to where I can’t stand seeing some of these guys on the floor for us. 2 of them start and 2 come off the bench. We just lost to a 5-5 Penn st….sheesus Christ!

Care to name these 2 players who start?

How we can’t have a smidge of effort after being off for however many days. Yes, I know PSU had 20 something days but it’s PSU for crying out loud. A 5-5, 0-2 PSU at that

I don’t think he missed badly, I just don’t think we have good guard play

So far from relevance!

Had Woodson not played here he wouldn’t have even been given an interview.  That’s our problem.

Days like today are why i cringed when i heard Woodson say after a game in November that they hadn’t done much work on the offensive end yet. What good does holding a team to 61 points do for you if you can’t even break 60 yourself? We shot 39.7% from the field and 23.5% from 3. Got out scored by 21 points at the 3 point line. Every game is going to be a grind when you can’t score, not matter how good your defense is. We held Wisconsin to 64 points on the road and PSU to 61 points but lost both because we can’t score.

Woodson hire was to bring the fans and support back.

Exactly what the eye test has been telling us all season. Anyone with a critical eye for talent and style. We can crunch quad numbers all day but in the end, this was very predictable. We aren’t a great team. Maybe not even a good team. We aren’t well coached. I’m not upset though because my realization for expectations has already been reset after watching us play basketball.

Very slightly more exciting brand than Archie ball but also very similar. We can’t even get our 2 best shooters any open looks.

I’m phasing out a little bit every season. I’ll watch IUBB like I watch IUFB with zero expectations because that’s about where we are as a program.

At this point it’s hard to argue against it. Sucks being an IU fan.
