I could go either way with the Gavitt games. Maybe we’d replace it with a marquee game, but part of the reason it hasn’t been marquee is that IU just hasn’t been great during their run. Other B1G teams have gotten the prime matchups. I assume this year will be different.

Its also not during a schedule window that makes IU miss a bigger chance. Later than the tip-off events, earlier than feast week.

Yeah i see it the same. We are already adding marquee games to the schedule. If we continue to climb back up into a contending team again, as we look to have started into, the marquee games will come anyway

If you build it, they will come

Personally, I'd like to keep it. And like you mentioned, it's likely our own fault we haven't got the better matchups.

If the BE and B10 don't extend, I hope the B10 will look for a similar deal with another conference for 5-8 years like the GGs. I do like the idea of two conferences cycling through each other on a regular basis (like the B10/ACC-C and GGs). I think I'd like to see an SEC/B10 Challenge if we can't get a regular IU/KY rivalry restarted.

And I'd like to keep something early too.

Ohio State as a home-only opponent is awesome. I have a gut feeling they're going to be very good. Minnesota and Nebraska single plays are unfortunate.

That's a really tough conference schedule.

Two bright spots:

  1. The three single play 'home only' games are vs a tough OSU team, avoid a miserable and exhausting place to get to in the winter: Nebraska, and avoid the misery of a Kohl road game at Wisconsin.
  2. Except for Ohio State, the whole upper half of the conference gets to have their @$$ kicked by us twice.

Illinois

Home: Michigan, MSU, Rutgers

Away: Iowa, Maryland, Purdue

Home/Away: IU, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, OSU, PSU, Wisconsin

Anybody have odds on Illinois winning the BIG in their sportsbook?

In my personal sportsbook Illinois has about a zero chance of winning the B1G.

Besides us? Ohio State, Iowa, Michigan State, Rutgers have a shot.

Extremely favorable single plays.  Win those and split our home and away and go 9-5 beating Northwestern and Rutgers and we are in great shape.

I was wrong we didn’t get hosed with a schedule.

I come away with the opposite take. Fewer lower quality opponents to sweep and more games vs top half of Big Ten (outside of OSU on road). If Woodson gets IU a share of the BIG this year, he'll easily deserve BIG Coach of Year.

One doesn't wish for favorable single plays.

A winning schedule has favorable double plays.

That having been said, if either Dickinson or Edey has a pulled hammy Purdue and Michigan are crap.

Being favored in all your single plays is very favorable. Switch those single plays home for aways and 4-2 would be the projection. As is it’s 6-0 almost certainly

No -- playing the best teams more often is not the recipe for a better record in conference. Playing MSU, UM, Illinois, Iowa, and Rutgers twice is pretty rough.

As Hovadipo said, I'm glad we got a single against OSU; they're gonna be really good. Three excellent transfers and a top 10 incoming class.

I get that. I am saying that the home and away is favorable because we will be favored in all 6 compared to a switching which would be 4-2.

We had the most favorable double plays last year possible.  We weren’t ever going to be that fortunate again.

My guess is metrics have us favored in 15 games next year. We are damn lucky in that considering the cakewalk we had last year

The B10 announced the home, away and home/away opponents today. I don’t think the B10 really wants IU to win it because, IMO, they play the toughest home/away opponents of any potential contending team.

Woodson's gonna have to start politicking the B1G office if these Shenanigans keep up.  Bright side.... Strength of Schedule Boost!

I’m still not convinced we didn’t get a decent bunch of home and away. I know Torvik is high on Purdue but they don’t have a PG that’s not insignificant. Especially in their system.

And Rutgers isn’t going to be that good.

All I know is I want to play at Illinois in December to hand them a loss before they have any time to gel
