I would be stunned if he left. The NBA style Woodson is bringing has to be music to his ears. I'm not as high on KL as his ranking suggests but I think he is the starting PG next year. I'd like this line up:

1 Lander

2 Franklin

3 Stewart

4 Stretch 4 Transfer that can shoot it (basically Justin Smith at Arkansas)

5 TJD

Galloway, Leal, Hunter, Duncomb off the bench. Brunk and Phinisee stay, but I don't think they fit with the style Mike is talking about. If one of Lander, Stewart, or Franklin leave I'd like to see a CG transfer that can shoot it.

I'd like to see them go after Tre Mitchell. I think IU recruited him. He can shoot the three ball.

Why couldn't Hunter be the stretch 4?

I think that TJD should be playing the 4. He is 6’9 and he is going against 7 footers and wasn’t succeeding to his fullest so if we get a 7 foot transfer I could see this team doing well.

If Brunk is healthy it gives us the opportunity to have maybe 10-15 min of then on the floor together with TJD at the 4.

Just stumbled across this post from J.R. Smith: https://www.instagram.com/p/CM-gVR7B7Wg/

Among the comments are Bradley Beal, Kenyon Martin, Quentin Richardson, Stephen Jackson – liked by Chris Paul. Hard to understate how loved Woody is and how valuable these relationships will be for us.

Here's the insta:

I was confused when he said we needed a stretch floor and then said "a Justin Smith type"

You not watch him at Arkansas? True he's not a 3 point threat but he still played the 4 spot a lot there and had success.

It's possible if he can defend.

Our offensive spacing was painful with Race and Trayce on the floor, I have a hard time imagining Trayce and Brunk would be any better.

Granted that was partly on our guards being mostly incapable shooters.

Question about the transfer portal. The players that enter it do they control that scholarship until they transfer or can the school use it and fill the spot and tell them returning is  no longer an option?

Once they enter the portal their scholarship and roster spot isn’t guaranteed anymore.

I believe once they enter the school controls the scholarship and can refuse to allow them to return.

It’s on TJD too. He’ll have to be able to improve over the summer to be able to play a little stretch 4. I’d be surprised if Woody isn’t selling him on that fact (eg. 25 min a game as the big, 10min a game to showcase his stetch 4 skills).

Also, TJD’s not a center at the next level defensively  and it’s taxing to have him guard other team’s 5 all game. UCLA, OSU, UM, Gonzaga, etc...all had bigs who caused smaller team’s problems because the other team was trying to play small with 6’8” guys at C defensively. Have to have that lineup in your back pocket. If not Brunk then a transfer.

New coaching staff:

"That's no longer where you stand on offense."

Maybe, but we would have to be very careful about who we played around them.

Phinisee/Armaan/Al/Race/Trayce had exactly two guys who were a threat from deep on the floor. Race/Trayce basically couldn't hit from out there and Phinisee was a 26% shooter.

Scholarships are year to year. Yes, we could fill their scholly while they're in the portal.
