Asking because I know nothing about Smith- but is he an intelligent, "floor general" type player? If so, of course you want him on board. When is the last time we had that on the floor at IU?

He’s the type of player that if IU doesn’t get, he will be a pain in our a$$ for 4 years.

I'll give whoever it is a chance and I encourage all you guys on here to do the same. I'm an IU fan. You're an IU fan. We spend some time on here so we care. But I'm not going to be happy if it's Porter. My interest in the program will drop big time. Yeah, he can win and I'd eat crow. I just think this is exactly what Indiana did four years ago. Hire the hot mid-major guy. I think Porter Moser is a fantastic coach in the Missouri Valley Conference. That is a good league and his teams have been pretty good for the past four years. I'm just afraid it's "well this worked at Loyola so it'll work at IU." That is literally what Archie Miller thought-just insert Dayton instead of Loyola. Indiana says they want to compete for National and Big Ten Championships. That's not me saying that. That's what Dolson and Glass have said at their pressers when they fired their coaches. I don't see any evidence that points to Porter Moser accomplishing that goal. I sure as hell hope he does! I'll give him a chance. I just don't see it. The new coach doesn't have to be Brad Stevens. I just hope it's a proven P5 winner that can come in here and have an immediate impact. If Indiana hires Porter Moser I'd be stunned if Lander and Franklin come back. You have to have talent in the Big Ten. The style Porter plays I just don't see him getting those guys you need to compete in the Big Ten.

To me if you go by Dolson's word Porter does not fit his criteria on the offensive end.

We always mention a donor offering to pay the $10 million for a buyout and some write that off as no big deal. But I still see that as a big deal meaning we had a plan. But we never mention it was said by Dolson we had another donor lined up to handle the other side of this deal which is hiring a new coach. Fine you can say it’s no big deal a donor agreed to pay for Archie to leave because it was time. But I don’t believe the other donor is going to agree to pay for the new coach without knowing where his money is being spent ahead of time. That tells me there was a plan and Dolson had his guy before any of this went down.

But the plan could easily be:

$$$$$ for Coach A

$$$$ for Coach B or C

$$$ for anyone else

Could be. And that’s good. Does that put you in national title contention? That is how IU needs to start thinking, if that is indeed their goal.

Not every recruit is going to be 5 stars. Not every 5 star pans out.  Victor wasn't a 5 star. Not saying this kid will be a Vic like player, but f IU is high on him it is probably for some trait(s) he has

Don’t doubt Chris heard something at all, and I am not questioning Braden’s ability. I just think it’s highly doubtful that “We“ told him he was a top priority. Who is we? We don’t have a coach. Previous coach had 20 or more offers out.

Just so people are clear, the Celtics will be in the playoff hunt for the foreseeable future.

Remember the top 10 seeds essentially make the playoffs now.

So this delusional hope that the Celtics are all of sudden be a lost cause is kind of ridiculous.

Don’t always need the best players to win, you just need the right players to win.

I don’t disagree. I’m not saying he isn’t a piece of the puzzle. I’ve long stated 3 stars and role players is the best recipe for success. Or 2 great ones. Sometimes having 5 dudes won’t work. It’s tricky.
PG doesn’t have to be the scorer or the most dominant guy. Just gotta have those pieces somewhere.

I was positing the question.

10 seeds? Did I miss something? 2/3 of the NBA will make the playoffs?

"Previous coach had 20 or more offers out."

Perhaps he was one of those and Assist Coach Roberts is continuing the recruiting contact with him?
