A lot of this (most of this?) IS on Woodson. Roster construct is an embarrassment. In the pressers he throws players under the bus and talks constantly about "we gotta get better" and "gotta get 'em over the hump", but whatever hump they're trying to get over, Woody kills the efforts with the crappy substitution patterns and schemes... He's regularly out-coached game in and game out... and his arrogance isn't doing him any favors with comments like "I'm not gonna sit here and answer questions from the fans or you...". That attitude might work if he was winning... but he's not... and when he loses, he loses big time... and we're getting into the tough part of the schedule... it's only gonna get worse... @ Purdue, 2 against Illinois, @ Iowa, 2 against Wisconsin...

Other than this you're a fan?

If we are discussing potential coaches I would have to think more about it, but if there is one hard no it’s Chris Beard.
He is a hard yes for me. He is a winning coach who has demons. Frankly, I am just tired of losing. I would risk it for the winning period. I never thought I would say it but IU ball basically sucks and no fun to watch. I have doing less and less watching as the years of mediocrity flow by. Get a winner that knows how to coach college basketball.

It's been a very poor product for the better part of the last 10 years.

Yeah I’m just ready to be done with the whole wondering which version of team we’re gonna get every single game. If we happen to pull off beating Wisconsin it isn’t gonna make me think all is fixed and will stay that way the rest of the season, unfortunately. Would love to end up being wrong on that but the things that have led us to this Jekyll and Hyde consistency of play could/should be fixed by now by the coaching staff and we just haven’t seen it. I like Woodson and appreciate what he’s trying to do for IU, but I think he had that mindset of “I’ve coached in the NBA for 30 years, so I can coach anywhere” and thought he’d just be able to out-coach everyone he goes up against, and obviously we’ve seen that its not working out like he thought it would.

Like I said, if we can beat Wisconsin and it sets us off to go on a big streak of positive consistency and we see the changes we think should be made then great, I hope it happens..but I think there’s too many problems we’ve seen that could have been fixed by now at this point that just seem to be unwilling for some reason.

You forgot to add that we paid a $10M buyout to fire Archie and then hired a guy who is now performing far worse in year 3 than Archie did in year 3.  Year's 1 and 2 were all Trayce.

You seriously cannot make this sh** up.

Let me Edit...*Fred Glass extended Crean by 2 years inclusive of a $10M buyout, boxing us out from making any moves on Stevens or anyone else, outbidding no-one (literally only ourselves) in the process, only to fire him, and Crean not being employed by any of the 360+ D1 programs within 5 years of his firing. Then hiring a second coach to never make an NCAA tournament, then having to pay $10M to fire him. He also forced out his football coach who went to b2b bowl games only to hire a coach that we had to pay roughly $15M to fire. In all, after accounting for final numbers, the university and boosters paid roughly ~$24.5M to have his coaches no longer work for the university.... Under his watch IU missed 8 of 12 NCAA tournaments and never won a bowl game, and paid $24.5M to make his hires go away... He then wrote a book titled "HOW I REBUILT INDIANA ATHLETICS"..... How is that not what serious programs do?

Like I’ve mentioned before, I almost wonder if the Dusty May thing had already been talked about with Dolson. I’ve heard/saw somewhere that when Dusty signed extension with his team there was a clause that enabled him to leave for IU. Dolson getting Woodson could have been a part of a plan that includes what happens AFTER Woodson’s time here. Hire Woodson to get the ball rolling again and repair what needs to be fixed, and then when he’s ready to give it up, we move onto the next planned step. I’m not gonna sit here and say that’s a sure thing and claim as fact, but it’s certainly a scenario that could have some validity to it. Just a matter of when.

I agree that Woodson won’t be fired, but he could surely have some people talk to him about a job well done, got things back on track, now let’s hand it over to this next guy who can put in this work needed for the college basketball landscape while you ride off in your golf cart enjoying life and still be a part of the program in a different light.

I can't see the timing of these things (hiring Woody, wanting May in a few years) coinciding. At the time Woodson was hired, Dusty May's head coaching record was 47-41 with the only postseason appearance being one year in the CIT. If hiring Woodson was step 1 of a larger plan, there is no way Dusty May was a part of that larger plan at the time of the hiring.

He’s possibly the best basketball mind in America and he’s still under 50.

He's expressed ZERO interest in returning to this level of basketball. He was done the second he left 10 years ago. Brad Stevens to Indiana is more than a pipe dream at this point. He's not a realistic candidate.

Actually the one that I laugh at is the reaction if Dolson would have rolled out Tommy Lloyd. A 20-year Asst at 1 school. The meltdown would have been volcanic. Pretty sure Arizona’s ok with that call.

I can see the rank and file Twitter fans being shocked at first. But I’m not sure that people wouldn’t have quickly got on board.

His old boss has been rumored for every major college job in America at one point only to stay put for 20 yrs. And Lloyd was made the heir apparent to Gonzaga before he decided he didn’t want to wait around. Major assistants like that aren’t any more of a risk than midmajor coaches and everyone fawned over Archie initially.

Nobody said anything about realistic.

And I’d venture he’s at least feigned interest in the college game at times. Do you not remember the previous coaching search?

He turned down $70 million and the opportunity to be the highest paid coach in college basketball at his supposed "dream" school. If that doesn't speak to lack of interest then I don't know what else to tell you?

Imagine if Stevens somehow made it known he's interested in coaching college basketball again.

Programs like Michigan and Louisville would instantly fire their respective coaches just to make it known they're available.

IU made Stevens an offer that only somebody with no interest in returning to college could refuse. And guess what?.....He refused.

It’s your impression that that was all one sided and Stevens never negotiated with IU or led them to believe he was interested?

Most big programs without a proven coach would. I bet places like Kentucky and UCLA would too.

See my post above.

IU made Stevens an offer that only somebody who had no interest in returning to college could refuse.
