Bozich says 0% chance. Our insiders say numbers have been discussed. Somebody will be dead wrong.

Given when (Rick) Bozich went to IU and the fact that he had the Woodson hire first, I would not be shocked if many of his contacts are Woody’s contemporaries. Make of that what you will.

My version of things. Scott & Quinn wanted to move on from Archie, Scott because of Brad, Quinn because of Mike. They raised the buyout with the knowing that Scott got the first swing, if that didn't work out Woodson was the guy. Brad said no, Isaah, Quinn, Ferguason, and Scott all flew to White Plains to give Mike the job. Scott tried to push for Matta but no way he was getting that past Quinn.

That’s pretty much how it was described to me by someone who also added a “prologue” by saying that Woodson might have been led to believe 4 years earlier that the job would be his when Crean was fired. Either led to believe that by Glass himself or by someone else. But it ended up being Archie instead.

If Doug Gottlieb can do two jobs at once and be terrible at both of them, surely Brad Stevens can do two jobs at once and be great at both of them.

Being the antithesis of Doug Gottlieb comes naturally to him.

1. Rick Bozich or Alex Bozich?

2. When did they say this?

3. Do you have a link to exactly what they said?

My guess 8s if stevens is a no we end up with Cronin or Buzz Williams. May will likely be tough to get and of course iu would never touch pearl and certainly not beard.

God I hope we never go down this road again. Give a guy a job simply because he played at the school

I think the only difference between your account and mine is that Scott only got one swing at the plate. It’s my belief that Scott was given the opportunity to find his guy and was unable to after a significant amount of time which opened the door for Quin to get it done.

do you recall the date/how long after Archie was fired that Quin flew out to offer Woodson? I believe it was quite a bit after which supports the account that Dolson was given ample time to deliver before plan ZZ was enacted

Looks like we fired Archie on Mar 15.  Brad Stevens says he is a "masshole" on Mar 19.  We hire Woody on Mar 28.  So that may support your theory but I just looked back at a text with a friend of mine who is Woody's relative.  This relative was prominantly sitting behind the bench often, so often i would usually give him a hard time about what he wore lol.  That text was on Mar 23 and I asked if Woody was coming to IU.  He said he thought it was a done deal but some surprise "deal" with Matta came up and everyone is upset.

So, from 3/19 to 3/23 seems to be the window here even though the deal was finalized on 3/28.

Numbers could have been discussed, that doesn’t mean anything. They were discussed last time too

Hey @Hornsby

You are continuing to post but did not answer any of this. Rick and Alex Bozich are reasonably connected and I'm wondering if they went on record stating that Stevens was literally a zero % chance.

Soooo?

Did he have any names he actually was confident about?

He just put them in tiers but never said who he thought would get the job

What about the quote "dolson has his guy". That was a direct quote.

That’s great intel. Paraphrasing but when asked what else do you have for us when Stevens was eliminated, he didn’t give anyone around him much confidence that he had anything else in a good place. That was enough to get the Woody discussion moving. So I’m not surprised that 4 days later things had progressed there. In all reality it would have just taken 1 phone call

He might have Stevens locked up but I don’t think so. That definitive type of statement doesn’t sit well with me, that same language was used 4 years ago too. It’s one thing to say I think or I was told but to say it so matter of factly when proven to have been wrong in the past is tough
