The Brad Stevens obsession is beyond weird at this point. This will be the third coaching change that people want a guy who has never shown the least bit of interest in returning to college let alone IU. A guy who it was widely reported didn’t like the recruiting game but is an option now when you have to rebuild the roster every spring and hope you are the highest bid. Never say never but highly unlikely.

Not liking the recruiting game would be great for him now. Basically gets to keep being a GM.

Not that I think this is happening

Beard is a guy similar to Pitino in the fact that doesn’t matter where he’s at he wins and immediately elevates a program. He has to be near the top of any list if you are serious.

Strictly in terms of coaching he'd be a great hire. I don't blame people for not wanting his baggage.

I'd be a fan of Luke Murray if compared to McCollum or McMillan. Much more in line with winning at the highest levels.

I liked your post, though I personally disagree, because I like hearing all the different opinions/perspectives out there.

I would have no interest in Luke Murray at this time. Don't think IU is the job for a first time head coach.

Sure he's been an assistant at Xavier, Louisville, and UConn but never been a HC before.

Know I value McCollum's 4 D2 national titles more highly than many others do... maybe that translates up a level, maybe it doesn't. But he's done it as the main guy and looking pretty good at Drake. Also feels like more of a Midwestern guy, better fit IMO. Not saying McCollum should be at the top of the short list, but that's why I'd prefer him to Murray, who by all accounts has a bright future ahead of him in the sport.

Another coach I think is really good but wouldn't fit here? Shaheen Holloway. You mentioned Mick Cronin yesterday I think... that would be A-OK with me.

Cronin would be great, but he has quite literally what may be the highest buyout in the country.

If this is indeed all coming down, then IMO Dolson has his man at the very least with a handshake deal.

I disagree. He knows that it's gone on too long and waiting would only make it worse. Handshake deal would be possible and excellent, but not needed to do the correct personnel action now.

I don't think any NBA GM would be happy with all of his players being free agents every year. Watch what Brad's been doing in Boston. Signing all of his players to contract extensions.

McCasland is an interesting dark horse. Hard to pull a fellow P5 coach out of a job but sometimes if you get them early before they put down roots it happens. Bill Self, Brad Underwood, etc…

He'd be great, but that would be a tough get. Former asst with master's from TX Tech. Wife is a TX Tech grad. If anything, he'll be the next TX coach.

Brad Stevens isn't coming to IUBB. He's the puppet master of THE most storied basketball program on the planet. Please move on from him folks.

Dolson should take the gloves off and take a wrecking ball to any walls on the next hire. If he doesn't get any takers from the big fish go straight after Ben McCollum.

Coaching matters.

I cannot imagine that Dolson will announce a new separation agreement with Coach W before the women's game tonight.  I also cannot imagine that Dolson will announce any such agreement before the end of the regular season.  I would not complain if that happened, though.

If it happened before the Michigan game, and if Dusty May has given the nod....which I don't think will happen...it would be extremely bad form for both schools to announce Dusty May as the chosen one....before the Michigan game.

Somehow, I can kind of see that happening./s

Back to a semblance of reality...two things really give me hope...1. the Cignetti hire sure sets the standard/template for hiring a head coach at IU.  2.  Woody is toast.

I hope IU wins out.  If it happens, it would be because Coach Woodson was thunderstruck and changed a lot relative to the coaching and game planning and starting five and substitutions and...yeah, right.  After 4 years of not doing it he has 10 epiphanies?

Dolson had his shorts jerked by whomever overruled his choice last time.  It ain't gonna happen again.

I didn’t know Brad coached the Hickory Huskers. Now, let’s get Beard!
