If it's an older guy I just want a plan for transfer for continuity purposes and that's assuming things are stable. If it's a young up and comer then I'm fine with that too but Dolson needs to make sure it's the guy he wants and feels best about. Basically we know what we have and it isn't working. I don't keep broken crap in my house just in case it may someday fix itself. Even if it costed me a pretty penny it still isn't going to help me accomplish anything to keep it around.

Yeah I think we have sent out feelers for the college level and what we're hearing back is not good. So you're looking at the two old guys, or an assistant at a big-time program, or a mid-major guy. Or you save money and wait till next year. Dolson can research this all he wants but he can't make this decision on his own.

I deserve the 5th year because we will have Brooks, Henry, Parker Stewart, and Joey Brunk all players that didn't play for IU this year. Not that this is going to happen but would you be OK if he said something like that? You can still fire him next year. You have to remember he was asked to take a pay cut this year because of COVID

Brunk doesn't move the needle for me at all really to be honest, but if he had Brooks and Henry signed and on board then I would consider it. I'd consider it even more if TJD was coming back too. I would still see if I could hire an upgrade, though. Land a good enough coach and we could still be serious players on the transfer market.

I got to chime in on a thought I had the other day concerning Archie.

Ironic that this thread even exists considering that 1) we missed the NCAAT last year because covid shut it down and 2) we are in danger of missing the NCAAT this year because covid took all our non-con cupcakes off the schedule.

I think this is a good point. I think there was some talk about this year when Dolson went to Archie and asked him to take a pay cut this year due to COVID. If I do this, then I need to have a guarantee.

Referring to Matta as 1 of 2 old guys? Only his back is old. If that is better, which none of us know, then yeah him please

Yes, Matta and Beilein are the old guys. Matta might be younger in age but after multiple back surgeries your not young anymore.

- TJD could stay and actually should stay if he wants to keep playing in America and not Turkey

- Al can come back. Look for him to transfer this year though.

- Rob might have a come to jesus moment.

- Race / Frank will be back and will hopefully improve with our freshman.

- Joey is back more than likely

- Transfer market

All hope isn't lost but there's a chance we could put a team together next year. A lot of things would have to work in our favor clearly but hey, crazier things have happened in the history of basketball right?

I'd be fine with TJD returning under a different coach. Not Archie.

Al needs to go. Sorry but Frank is better and we have Leal and Stewart. Hunter should be starting next season as well along with the rest of this season.

Is Matta someone who would actually take the job?  I'd be happy if we hired Matta, messed up back and all

At this point, I'm honestly just done with Archie. It's nothing against him personally. I've never met the guy, but he doesn't strike me as a jerk, unlike a previous diet coke loving coach of ours did. I just hate the current state of the program.

Mixed reports there. Some say he has expressed interest, others have said he won't take it from good friend Archie

I don’t see Brooks or Henry coming here. We are a train wreck right now!

Gives me even more of a reason to fire him.

If I were in his spot I wouldn't think of it as "taking" it from AM. If he's fired then there's nothing to take from him. I would simply see it as being the next coach that happened to be the one right after AM. Someone's going to take the job so may as well.

So let me get this straight.

We self Sabotage with how the knight firing went down, forcing us to hire someone that we probably didn’t necessarily want, we then fire him. Get another coach that not everyone wants. We self sabotage and fire Sampson because some boosters didn’t like him. Because of that we’re forced to hire Crean which a lot of people didn’t want, then we can’t fire Crean because his buyout was too high, so we delay the inevitable..then we fire Crean and hire Archie, whom not everyone was excited for...but now we can’t fire him and get someone we want because buyouts are too high... so it seems we’re gonna settle on someone not everyone wants....

This seems like a repeating pattern. Why can’t Iu just hire a good coach like Ohio state, Illinois, Louisville, or any other school. Is it one persons fault? Who’s the puppet master making the same mistakes over and over again?? Who can we blame lol

As I've tried to say today that a lot of coaches feel that removing a coach after year 4, when there was no tourney last year & coaching during COVID this year while taking a pay cut is bad business. When you add in 5 coaches in 21 years, I think people are hesitant to come here. I think people think it is an administration problem. Can't run off players, harder to get grad transfers things like that.

I don't think a lot of people are lining up to work for this athletic department. Most of the same people have been there during all of these hires. Hopefully getting a new president will help this summer.

Is it that or because he's good buddies with AM. That's what I was referring to because that was the reason you said Matta may not want to take the job. I don't buy into all that other stuff as a rule. I'm sure some/many coaches do feel that way but I'm also sure there are a lot that are ego maniacs and don't believe their abilities would ever put them in that position.

Yes their close friendship but that would probably change if AM called Matta and said take the job

50/50 on someone leaving a big city to come to a small town. No inside knowledge on this but going back to listening to interviews to people about BS they've been disappointed in him for a while now.

That is WAY higher than I would place it. Like 48% higher

Which also something I'd do if in AM's position. I would give my blessing before it was asked for. I also wouldn't hold it against a good friend but everyone is different. I understand that is a different element to consider though.

If IU was dumb enough to give me a 10 million buyout, I would tell any of my friends to go take their money if they want to give it to you.
