Wasn't this what Ya or Rosemond or one of the assistants was just talking about on someone's podcast or something? This would be cheating right? I'm sure we'd never do this.

What do 6'7" centers from almost 40 years ago or a 6'4" wing from 20+ years ago have to do with the 2023-24 Hoosiers? Maybe we should look at something recently or we could continue to live in the glory days.

Height isn't the end all be all at any position. Give me a slightly "shorter" player with a longer wingspan that has a great feel for the game. You have point guard skills or you don't, big man skills or not, big/small wing skills or not. You can play or you can't. 6'4" on the wing is nothing in college ball if they can get it done.

either way, it isn’t cheating. He has declared. They can talk through others etc. as someone who knows a few who have transferred, it is common for many to know 100% where they are going before they ever enter.

It's not cheating if they've entered the draft process but if they haven't entered the draft it's cheating?

1.  It was a hypothetical and

2.  There exists tons of 'legal' ways (maybe unethical, but what is ethical in recruiting) to gauge interest.

I think we've already done the 'Ya complaining about cheating' to death anyway.

Direct contact with someone who has entered the NBA draft would be still be against the rules.  But you and I are both not naive to think that there isn't indirect contact made between even the most 'holy' of schools and players.

So in that hypothetical it's cheating if another program does it to our players but we're good doing it to other programs. That puts a neat little bow on the topic.

now, I know those sites have been very hit and miss. But, since I had heard it a few times, I decided to dig and make it make even a little since myself. Then I saw the social media with Hulls, the article, then I thought about maybe Ware played with him growing up some, the not having lots of room, him not projected to be drafted, etc. I mean, there is something there. Maybe still small but there. Things like that would also tie in further to why no names right now. 

I missed the earlier post. Did Ware play with or know Davis?

I'm not sure why you are trying to start a debate on a topic that isn't there.  You asked if it was 'cheating' and the question was answered.

Good catch. My kids played with and against many kids in the surrounding communities. 15 miles in Arkansas might be a smaller group of kids than here in Indy

Where was I trying to start a debate? There is nothing to debate. If we're playing the game I'm happy we finally started competing. We could probably slap a name on it and say we're the first to do it so the fan base will get stoked about it.

You are a male member!  I said I am not opposed to it, 3 guard lineups work, but you need to have a wing with some size in case a team has a wing with size that they could exploit that mismatch.  I just prefer to have a wing around 6’6” or 6’7”.  Randy Whitman was 6’6” and Calbert was 6’7” as really good examples

Sure. The 2013 team had a 6-7 Sheehey coming off the bench. But the 2016 team was different. It had OG but OG played at the 4 more. But under Crean, 2-4 were wing spots. Zeisloft was always the first wing off the bench though at 6-4.

As an FYI, this was posted a few days ago.  IU among several others have contacted Frederick.  Some hypothesizing that he will go to Cincinnati (that's his hometown).  In an interview he said he was looking to go somewhere that he would have an expanded role.

I agree that a 3 guard line-up could/has worked, but getting a scoring guard to start ahead of Trey AND getting another Wing is the better plan. I love Galloway, but he's not a scorer and I think IU needs a 'go to' scorer. I don't like the idea of XJ having to look to score first. No one else on the roster is a proven double digit scorer, so I hope to see IU find a 13-15ppg guy to start at guard and allow Galloway to be the 6th man, where I think he excels. Should Davis from Arkansas enter the portal, could be a real nice fit.

The list of teams that had contacted him that I saw didn't really include any that he would have too much of an expanded role.  Teams like Cincinnati, Xavier, West Virginia, IU.  Can't remember the full list.
