Stop speculating on Doughty.   Not in the cards.

I only put his name out after hearing it mentioned on here.

No, I really DON’T think that he’d be someone our staff would/should pursue. Just was trying to get a feel from the board on how many would want to go the route of “developing” a guy with the last scholarship - typically a guy that’s not going to play much.

You do realize speculate means “form a theory or conjecture about a subject without firm evidence”, right? I have NO idea if the staff would even entertain the thought of looking a the kid. But a discussion on it isn’t allowed? Geez . . .

Easy friend!

It’s because after his name was put out there iit has been independently verified that Indiana is not pursuing him as a scholarship player.

My intent wasn’t that we SHOULD go after the guy. I agree Ball State (or that level) is a better fit for him .

I was only trying to start a conversation about HOW we should develop a roster - especially when it comes to utilizing the last scholarship. I was trying to get a feel from the board on IF we should fill those spots from the portal OR if we should look to develop guys in-house.

This is a message board. Isn’t it a place to discuss how we feel about how we operate as a program?

Mind your manners you young whippersnapper.  Purpose was to not see this thread start to evolve into multiple pages talking about a kid that's not on the IU radar.  Geez yourself.

No name calling-- You,...you....YOOOOUUUUU!!   ;)

It's all good guys.

Let's move on and keep discussing the transfer portal.

Hey, if you want to tell me “please, let’s not let the discussion in this thread go off the rails”, I’m fine with that.

But there’s absolutely NO REASON to be a jerk about it. And, no, this is my last post on the subject in this thread; I don’t want to deliberately derail a topic. Just as I would never want to deliberately do/say something offensive to someone - especially over a message board discussion.

According to a few other sites seems like the shedrick call went very well (dont they all?) but as much so that the poster commented “he very well may be next”. And then on another site ledlum is getting some love. Speaking of love sounds like us missouri (hometown) and memphis?

Alabama is in on Love too. We had all coaches on zoom, and yes all visits usually go great. Ledlum is not committing till after he visits next weekend. We get a week to catch our breath

What do you think our chances are with Love - or is it too early to tell?

With how the Portal works and how fast everything changes I don't even know what to guess. Two days ago people were saying no reason to reach out, then yesterday mutual interest. I'm not sure we have even spoken to him. I will say one thing that could help or be in our favor is Scott May is one of Woody's closest friends, and Scott's son Sean is an assistant with UNC. So maybe he's putting in a good word for us.

It’s amazing just how much college basketball has changed in the last couple of years. Allowing kids to transfer immediately without restrictions has essentially created a free agent market.
Good to hear we have good connections on this one. I’ve got to believe reputation (development of guys to the next level) and connections are going to be vital as the landscape around CBB continues to evolve.

What about Ware? I saw people saying he wanted to talk to us, but haven’t seen where that came from.

If you're referring to the dead period here, it doesn't mean they can't communicate. The only thing the dead period does is keep coaches from seeing recruits in-person. Calling, texting, emailing, snail mailing, carrier pigeoning, etc. is all fair game.

If you don't mean for dead period reasons, then disregard!

I think they, the NCAA, are going to slam down on it.  No other league has this crazy free for all.  And while it lets teams literally rebuild overnight, it's also like Rec league where you never know who you got.
