It took 2 weeks for Wade to hire a staff that included a GM from OKCs office and an assistant GM. He brought staff with him from day one. That's how you have to do it. He wasn't working off a coffee table in the players lounge with two guys that weren't bench coaches in their previous stops for over a month. DD might turn out to be a better coach but he's not been so far.

I’ll wait to pass judgement on CDD’s approach. I have to say that I’ve been pretty consistent in thinking the GM role is a valuable one. You really see it taking off in football where there are 5-10x the number of players.

With that said, that may be why he hired non bench staff first. They might be filling the same purpose without the title.

You weren't in Assembly/Cook Hall during CDD's first six weeks on the job, so you have no idea how CDD was operating or really what was happening at all.  Despite this, you made up this story and then declared your made up story a red flag.  If you want to panic, fine, but this doesn't make any sense.

He pulls the same act in his posts at ITH.

We should enter a non-conference tournament with Iowa, Ole Miss and NC State just to watch the infighting around here about our preferred coaching candidates last cycle lol

Ha.  And the winner of that four team tourney plays Michigan.

KU’s Rakease Passmore in the portal. Had an IU offer. Had a tough year there and never seemed to settle in. But the kid is an absolutely elite athlete and has the tools to be a defensive menace. He’ll land just fine.

I keep saying Buzz is gonna win. And he will quickly. Indiana has an UPhill battle this year. Glad the W/Ls aren’t on paper because we are getting killed there. Felt like DeVries is just trying to skirt into the tournament with this roster.

We keep hearing about how we can't get who we want because we haven't been good recently

It’s all perception for posters.   People you hear say iu can’t get who they want is the ones that thinks IU is on Dukes level when it comes to recruiting.  You could argue IU got who they wanted this portal cycle it’s just not good enough for a select few posters.  Optics drive many’s view of ius roster

It’s not just posters. All my patients that are IU fans that come in are generally underwhelmed with the hire and the roster. Most are much more of casual fans than I. I actually try to pep them up this is going to work. Believe that or not. Yeah, we aren’t Duke or Kentucky. Or maybe UConn or Kansas. But we are next. We have a top 5-15 name and top 5-15 NIL. We should be able to build top 5-15 rosters. To me, that’s the standard. Underachieve that and then end up 30-40 in down years. That’s the idea in my head.

Or just be happy we field a team at all and have no expectations. (Speaking of which, PFW is dropping Baseball and Softball due to budget cuts and that’s unbelievably sad for college sports).

Yes, a lot of NE Indiana folks not happy with the decision to cut Mastodon sports.

I believe that the more casual the fan, the more likely they were to think that exclusively Brad Stevens or 65 year old Bruce Pearl would have been the proper hires.

And there are probably zero current college players whose names would resonate with casual fans.

Me? I don’t give a **** about that. We’re finally going to have a professional college basketball coaching staff. Very good things are likely to follow in due course.

I think it is too early to say we have concerns but also too early to say we finally have a professional college basketball staff. This staff does not really differ from Crean’s or Miller’s. I am hopeful that we will finally have a staff that builds a more consistent and higher end winner but I had hope with all the others too.

Good afternoon; and happy Memorial Day weekend,

I would like to formally announce that I, Barrel Rick, will be entering the transfer portal..

After 4 years at the University of Northern Delaware A&M Taxidermy & Circus (1975-1979), I retired from the game of basketball after a long battle with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), and moved to Bloomington to begin my life as a semi-professional bass fisherman.

After a recent conversation with Scott Dolson and Coach DeVries, they have extended me a scholarship opportunity, and I plan on joining the Running Hoosiers this fall.

While my skillset is limited, I am an absolute anchor in the post. Standing 6 feet 10 inches, and displaying a 430 pound frame; I'm fat as sh*t..

I promise to captain the painted area like you haven't seen since Kent Benson..

Bow to me, I am the Barrel.

- Barrel Rick, 2025

sponsored by Walt Bell, and Daniel J Rhondes

Suffering from IBS, you'll truly be a Running Hoosier.   :farting_smiley:

There's a big gap between recruiting on Duke's level and filling your roster with a bunch of mid major players.

Unfortunately we wound up a lot closer to the second.  You can't compete where we need to compete with the haul we got.  I'm not trying to say we need to recruit like Duke right now, but these recruits are low talent for our own history.

You watch them play much last year? Or you’re saying mid major automatically = low talent?

Per 24/7, last year the two comparable new coach, big rebuild teams had portal classes ranked #5 (UK) and #27 (UL).  Both teams had generally speaking good years with their new coaches.

Our class portal class is ranked #9 this year.  Rankings aren't everything (but they're directional) and things are very TBD, but what has happened so far doesn't look to be an outlier situation or notably alarming.
