Popular Post Class of '66 Old Fart Posted December 18, 2019 Popular Post Posted December 18, 2019 Unfortunately, I never saved a copy but I once had a fact sheet on how to make a committee totally ineffective. These are a few of the points I recall. 1. Put an unwieldly large number of people on the committee. 2. Make sure they're widely separated geographically to make meeting in person extremely difficult. 3. Make sure some of the members absoutely hate some of the other members. 4. Don't give them any specific deadline so they won't feel any urgency to act. mamasa, Alford Bailey, raorIU and 5 others 6 2 Quote
Chips&Dipo Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Anybody else think it is weird to have a current student athlete on the committee? Quote

There's a student in the BoT too. As much of a PR move than getting a different perspective or mindset on an issue. I think it's a bigger ethical issue to have current coaches pick their future boss. Looze and Yeagley probably won't ever be fired but if women's bball falls off the map, will the new AD think twice before firing Moren knowing she was a factor in him/her getting the job. LIHoosier Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 I didn't say he was the best choice. I know Scott and I like him a lot but I don't how he would do in charge of the whole department. I worked with Pat while he was a player at IU and he was a little standoffish for my taste but that was 20 years ago. I loved the way Chris Reynolds played and have met him a few times but nothing more than Hi and bye. Yes, the is usual for a committee that big for a big hire at IU. I will support whoever gets the job and honestly I have no idea who is the best candidate. I know and like Scott the best but I can't say he will be a great AD.Wasnt Pat on the staff in the beginning of the Cool Dad era? Did his demeanor improve from 1999 to 2009?Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk Quote

Apologizing in advance to any such individuals who are members of btb. It was intended as a general characterization and not as an attack on your profession. Quote

I worked at a different job for the university during those years so I wasn't around him. He has to be well-liked to have had the jobs he has had for the last 10 years. I think he would do a great job. LIHoosier 1 Quote
NOLA Hoosier Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Just thinking the last day or so, I highly doubt we're getting anyone that's been mentioned so far. Most likely it's going to be someone we didn't see coming and be totally ho-hum and middle of the road. Not be be negative or anything, it's just what I've come to expect. Quote
coonhounds Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Glass kept Crean about 2 years too long, then hired a coach who is not ready to live up to IU standards. Some people accept that, meaning our standards have slipped significantly. Glass gets a D- for his basketball management.I believe archie is or was ready to live up to iu standards and still do. Just cause he didn't make the tournament and win a championship with the kids we have had so far dont mean he will not in future. I guarantee nobody was living up to our standards with last two seasons kids. Just not smart, tough, or talented enough to win on the big stage. But in year 3 even though it hasn't been pretty we got a good record let's let this season play out before chastising archie or the fanbase to much. Myself I want iu back as bad or more than anyone I will about guarantee it but also realize you cant win a championship with kids that aren't ready for that level. Fred glass I would give a b- based on his entire tenure. Sent from my SM-G960U using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 The only thing that bothers me, there is someone to represent Women’s soccer, basketball and swimming. Someone for men’s swimming. Someone for football. The crappy legal and look good garbage. But no Archie to represent men’s basketball. No Jeff Mercer for baseball. The most important sport at the school has no one there. But why?Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Quote

It is in the middle of their season and all. Not saying that is what happened, just my hope and guess. Quote

I’m sure he would have been on there to represent. Sherron Wilkerson? Dare I say... Dan Dakich? Anyone really. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

But you said "no Archie to represent men's basketball". And I would guess it is because Archie himself declined. Quote

Alford Bailey Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Its a little worrisome that no basketball rep is on the committee TBH. Talking to IU basketball fans this week ( not on this board) there is little faith a great hire is made. Hoosierfan2017 1 Quote

Talking to IU basketball fans this week ( not on this board) there is little faith a great hire is made.Knowing today’s world, they’ll make another diversity hire rather than one of being most qualified and absolutely best for what we need. We will end up with the Mike Davis of AD’s. I’d like someone a little out of the box. Maybe they can kidnap an AD from another big time school.
