Bracketology and Team Resumes

Against Washington, Ballo and Reneau were never on the court together.

Against Oregon yesterday, they played 17 minutes together.

I think that somewhat had to do with the shrunken rotation and Goode fighting foul trouble a lot of the game.  I will say Carlyle came in and played pretty well in the first half but MgBako was awful and unplayable in the first half.  He did knock down some big shots in the 2nd half.

I think the main difference last night (other than the refs) was Goode didn't have a game like he has been having the last month and Oregon was just able to barely get to more 50/50 balls than we could.  It felt like the team was hustling but Oregon was just a little more athletic and quicker to the ball.

Would be fun to get another crack at them next Thursday in the 8/9 game in the BTT if we can beat OSU on Saturday

Here is my question:

1. Would IU rather rematch Oregon in what will basically be a home game in Big Ten Tournament with 95% IU fans and a close trip vs. a long trip?

2. Play Illinois again in what will be basically a true neutral site game where both teams are a short bus ride away and fans are pretty evenly split?

Which is better matchup and preferable? Those who want Oregon should root for Illinois in their next game. Those who want Illinois should root for Purdue,

defintely prefer Oregon in Indianapolis.  They pose some serious matchup problems for us but Iillinois seems to outtalent us in the right spots.  So Oregon for me, mostly due to the crowd.

Oregon. More partial crowd this time and hopefully different officials that would realize it's a basketball game and not a wrestling match.

No one should root for Purdue.

Ever.

You just know if we make the tournament we will play one of 6 - Ole Miss or 7 - Uconn, with 2 - St Johns and 3 - Iowa State waiting. If we are in first four, guarantee it will be Arkansas. And it will either be Dayton to Seattle or Wichita, Kansas.

People think the committee sets up these matchups  however the bracketing rules and principles dictate where teams get put.   I thought that they did that  way back in the day 25 + years ago before I got into bracketology.  Then I did some mock selections and saw how it really works.    I’ve posted some videos of a mock selection before.  Long but really good stuff on how it works

I think Oregon is a better matchup.  Illinois struggled when they had their center out with mono and had some guys sick but have been pretty good since (except the Duke game...woof).

Some of the best bracketologist are about to do a mock draft for 4 days with a live stream.  They have done it the last couple years.  I will provide the link when it starts.    It will show them doing the whole process that the committee will do for those interested.  It starts tomorrow

Apologies...trying to spend less time on here during the week.

Do we think a win against OSU is enough to get us in and avoid a play-in, or do we need one or two in the BTT to even squeak in a play-in situation.

Personally win against OSU and get win a game in the BTT to make the tournament

Still will depend on how many bid stealers there ends up being.

I did not necessarily mean they would set us up to screw us, more along the lines of the forces that be will make us run into a story line of some kind :).

14 Q1 opportunities as of today left

1 Q2 opportunity left

1 Q3 land mine left.  This is why I’m bullish on 10-10 would get IU in.  Even if some of those Q1 drop to Q2 that’s still good resume wins and the B1G teams metrics are so good now it will be hard for those top teams NET to drop well below to move them to the Q3 area for the remaining home games and no chance the road games fall NET 136 to make is a Q3.   Every B1G team is in the top 100 and there are currently 9 B1G teams currently in the top 30. lol.    Want to see something wild look at IUs rpi team sheet. IU has a top 25 rpi and their sos is 27 and non con is 59. lol.    If this was the old days IU would be in pretty good shape.  lol

IU got to 10-10 and I’m still bullish on that.   IU would need a bunch of bid stealers to get left even with a loss in the first round of BTT.  Back in January people were telling me someone said IU needed 12 wins to even be consider for an at-large.  Last game of the year IU went 10-10 and will be projected in the field in almost every good bracketologist there is.   I’m just good at taken out the emotion of being an IU fan when I evaluate them against everyone else.

Good stuff, who made this?

4 of the top bracketologist in the game today.    They do this every year.   That’s only day 1 from Thursday.    There will be 3 others.   Rocco Miller and Bracket Dave are 2 of them and the ones I pay close attention to and those guys have helped me in the past on some of my projections through twitter
