Do the committee voters have anything in front of them that states Phinnesee and Galloway missed a lot of games that we lost ? We know our record would be better, but does Indiana get a chance to make that pitch?

This seems like a weak argument for us to make, honestly. Might as well make it, but we’ve been very fortunate with injuries this year. Race, Trayce, and Kopp have played all 31 games. Xavier and Parker have played 30 of our 31 games. The only game they missed was for a suspension. I don’t know how many other teams have had none of their starters miss any time for injury.

It’s a factor that the committee has taken into account in the past. We’re something like 8-2 with both Galloway and Phinisee in the lineup, with wins over Purdue, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Michigan. That should count for something.

If I was someone who wanted to root against teams for IU’s benefit I would want these results to happen

IU over Illinois and none of the rest will matter

Auburn over A&M

Davidson winning the A-10 on Sunday

north Texas winning conference USA on Saturday

Tenn over miss st

Umass over Dayton

tulsa over smu

Kentucky over Vandy

Richmond over vcu

Zona over Colorado

Purdue over Penn st

Texas tech over Oklahoma

North Carolina over Virginia tech

Its gonna be tougher to make that argument this year since seemingly every team from 1-358 has had someone miss a game or two from Covid but had enough healthy players to field a roster.

Injuries are a small piece of the puzzle that usually affects seeding more so then selection.    Committee can’t assume a team would of won the game with the missing players however if a team loses a player or gains a player depending on how that team responds could be a factor in seeing the teams seeding

We’re talking about two role players, and as far as I can tell, there was little overlap between their two absences. Few teams go through a season without any injuries. We’re not talking about TJD or Race missing chunks of the season. They’ve played every game. If you think it should count as something that’s fine, but from an objective, committee-perspective, I think that’s outweighed by our injury luck with our starters.

Just my opinion, but injuries shouldn’t be any factor at all, regardless of who it is.  I know sometimes the committee thinks differently.

From a loss standpoint, IMO.  SMU won’t really gain much from a win other than another notch.

Agreed, key for iu in aac is Houston/Memphis final. A win for smu over Memphis or finals appearance could put 3 aac teams in over iu.
