I’m thinking this young (very big) man is likely to be a Hoosier. He is young, he will still have four years, and apparently while raw, he is very talented and plays very hard.

What UConn Coach Hurley says about him is extremely encouraging/intriguing. FWIW, when you open the link you will see the article is titled “UConn's Javonte Brown cites departure of assistant coach Kenya Hunter as reason he's transferring”

In October, Hurley described Brown as “a piece of clay. A legit 7-footer with tremendous upside, really, really nice skill set. Just got to figure out how to maneuver his body. He’s an 18-year-old, 7-foot, 265-pound puppy who is gonna be special. Right now, he’s got to sort things out physically, and figure out the intensity level of practice and everything a freshman’s got to do that way. But, big-time potential, very high ceiling, and unlike a lot of big guys, he loves to play. He plays with a competitiveness. He doesn’t play basketball because he’s tall, which a lot of tall guys only play basketball because somebody makes them play, because they’re tall. He plays basketball because he loves to play, and it shows up on the floor.”

If we do land him I hope he gets to Btown soonish to get acclimated to the team. You can’t teach 7’, 265 pounds. Development will be key but having two legit Big Ten centers, with time, would be nice. Thompson and another four developing a perimeter game would help a ton too.

You may well be right. And transferring creates, practically-speaking, a redshirt. And that should have been the path for him from the jump. I’ll take 7’0”, big frame, long, can run and with decent hands any day. But that kid just turned 18 and he’s a calf on skates right now. He had no business playing this year. But if he has a blue collar mentality he could be a hell of a long term investment. If he doesn’t he could be a hell of a tease.

With us now having Coach Hunter, does that seem to give us a serious edge in his recruitment now? I don’t really follow recruiting much anymore, so just curious if the staff are trying to push hard to land him.

Should he come to IU, it doesn't seem like we are likely to get much out of Brown-Ferguson for quite a while. It is not apparent what his ceiling is but he clearly isn't ready to contribute much next season.

Is he does come I wouldn’t mind a redshirt, as long as Joey Brunk is back and with Duncomb we are fine. Race will be the main 4 and should have better production out of Hunter and Geronimo.

Think it’s exciting that a 7 footer either way is considering IU. Makes a huge difference long term in the B1G.

Perfect solution is for TJD to return for another season with Duncomb backing him up, so this guy can Red-shirt.

Find another PF to bring along behind Thompson and IU will have achieved roster balance harmony.

I’ll like any post about TJD sticking around.

This guy may not want to redshirt. This year has already went to crap

He didn't want to redshirt before he was on a D1 roster for a year. I think it is pretty much a guarantee that he will under no circumstances consider a redshirt, and I cannot blame him.

Can you imagine the recruiting call?

"Javonte, you can make a big impact on our program....now we'd also like you to sit out until 18 months from now."
