Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBB vs. Illinois - Thurs., 1/3 @ 7:00

Recommended Posts

We have played just well enough to win most games but most games we have massive stretches where they look like they don’t know what a basketball is

That’s fair and I don’t disagree. I think that’s who we are tbh. That’s a team that is a decent seed but not a top seed. I think that’s what everyone expected, but didn’t realize this is what that looks like if that makes sense. The good thing is it will always leave teaching moments. We are winning. When we played our best game our guys came out full of themselves and looked like trash for a couple of weeks. I definitely agree we can play consistently better and we should. I just don’t know if we have the players to do that. When they lock in defensively we are a very good team. Tonight we were rusty, played Illinois, and the crowd was dead. The score was pretty much in line with what I predicted based on those things. I had 71-64. It’s definitely a discussion. It just stinks because you don’t see the 5 shot clock violations, or McBob being back playing great defense, or Justin and Deron giving a boost. To me there was both good and bad. On the board there wasn’t anything positive unless it was Romeo and Juwan. So much more than that imo.

True. To be fair a lot of the negative green stuff is all positive about Rob.

Just wish this team was healthy. Would be a very interesting season I think

Fair but I think this team for the most part has not played up to its potential which would lead to a lot of objective assessment that also appears negative.

How do we even know what our "full potential " is with the amount of injuries we've had to endure. Archie is doing an unbelievable job considering the circumstances

I agree. But we have to get healthy. We have a stretch that could break us if we don’t start getting bodies back. Hunter would have been a huge boost this year. Most people around the program felt he was our third best player leading up to his issues. We have to get Rob back. Imo that is key to this upcoming stretch. We have to play out of our mind early this Sunday. A slow start won’t keep it within 15.

Yeah that is the best way to put it. It’s not being negative. Just being realistic I guess. Yeah there was a nice stretch where our defense was flat freaking awesome man. Then on offense we looked really bad for stretches. Again it is what it is at this point. Not “trying” to be negative

Thanks!  Terrible with being able to tell fakes (or, to be honest, use/read/follow Twitter well)

I’ve been saying all along we are not as good as people think. Hoping we get healthy because we will lose home games to the good teams and away games to anybody the way we are playing.

Butler not that good. Louisville not that good.

Northwestern and Penn St are lousy.

Seems the consensus is a blowout loss from UM. I think maybe. Probably really. Where I don’t believe we can match them offensively, I do think we can D them into a lower scoring output. Green will be so important on the defensive end for that. Play Zach as well. Rebounding may be where we get beat up. Like most said, the start is crucial. Wish we had shooters. We get down double, we just can’t shoot out of it. Question, Could Romeo steal the show? Hope there will be another league scout in attendance, and that he knows it.

I feel like a not in my backyard old timer, but it seems like this board had more intelligent discussion before a large portion of newer posters came in with constant complaining. I was an optimist and guys like schoosier were hard out on Crean from early only and we butted heads often, but there was in depth debate and discussion when those sides disagreed.

Now I feel like I come on here and just have to scroll through 4 pages of one sentence garbage repeating the same complaint.

Louisville win still a Quad 1 win as of today, Penn St is a quad 1 win. Northwestern and butler are still quad 2 wins as of today. Northwestern losses are a blowout loss on road to Net 7(mich st), OT loss to Net 20(Oklahoma), 2 point losses to (Net 3,21)

I’m usually positive, but I think there is a good chance we could lose 6 or 7 of the next 8 if we don’t get people healthy and start games better.

@ Michigan

@Maryland

Nebraska

@ Purdue

@ Northwestern

Michigan

@Rutgers

@ Michigan State

I think 4-4 in that stretch would be a win
