Team is 7-2 with two Quad 1 wins and you would think we lost to Indiana State and Fort Wayne

Just for clarity: Marquette at home is a Tier 2 win. By beating Penn St we dropped them to 76 in the NET, dropping that win to Tier 2 as well.

This team is majority Archie. There are what? 3-4 players that Crean coached? Smith, Al and Moore May have been recruited by Crean, but Archie wanted them and has been the only guy to coach them. This team is his. He will have coached Morgan for half of his career. Green for 3/4. Davis for 3/4. There is plenty of talent there. He got a pretty good deal to start with as a coach.

And we are 7-2. 4 players Crean coached. Last years class he kept for continuity. He didn’t necessarily want them but what choice did he have at that point in the process? You really think those are the players he recruits? He got them the same as Morgan, Green, McBob, and Davis. Not a single one of our sophomores through seniors would be here if Crean didn’t recruit them. You are nuts if you think this team is majority Archie’s guys. He is doing pretty well with the hand he was dealt. They will cycle out pretty quickly. I think he is doing better with them than Crean would have done with those 3/4 stars. We are replacing the 3/4 with 4/5 stars. We have a lot to improve on but at 7-2 I am content where we are for now.

Edit: Outside of our grad transfer obviously.

I truly feel sorry for you that your idea of IU basketball is based off of the last 10-12 years. Since that is all you have seen and truly remember. But damn you are negative lol. I can understand Gradman because he is at least old enough to know what good teams at IU are like. You need a hug man. It isn’t as bad as you are making it out to be. You are on a roll today spreading your holiday cheer.

That's why you have to diversify your teams.  Yes, IU basketball has been depressing for decades and IU football is IU football.  The Colts are meh.  But the Tampa Bay Lightning?  First place baby!  I need at least one of my teams to be good.  Joe, join the Lightning bandwagon.  It'll be good for your sports fan mental health.

Lmao I might become a Lightning fan too. My Bears aren’t bad this year but it’s been rough. Cubs are the Cubs. I can’t really complain right now.

Personally I think that would be unacceptable even in a tougher B1G. I think 19-21 wins is what it would be if we don’t improve. Last year we played our best ball down the stretch. The B1G as currently stands looks like a gauntlet. There is always an Iowa and others that will fall off. Right now we have a lot of teams that look like potential tournament teams. By the end there will be about 7. Always is. We just better not be one of those teams that falls off.

Ive heard other people say this to, but how are you defining “played our best ball down the stretch”?

From January 24th on we were 4-7 and looked horrible in our final game against a bottom feeder.

Rutgers yes we were awful. Leading up to that defensively we were leaps and bounds above where we were earlier in the season. Fort Wayne put up 90 in mid December on us. 3 teams put up 80 on us the rest of the way. MSU (top 10), Iowa, and OSU (2 OT). We went 9-9 in the B1G after starting the season the way we did. Offensively we struggled, and this is still my biggest issue. But I would say going 9-9 in B1G after losing to ISU and Fort Wayne means we were playing our best ball down the stretch. You picked that date for a reason. Leading up to that date we had won 4 of 5. Then we play MSU, OSU, and PU in three consecutive games. At OSU we lost by 15 which was our worst loss the rest of the season.

We are 7-2 and a tip in away from 8-1? We got blown out by Duke but so did Kentucky. We have held every team we have played to under 1 point per possession, aside from Duke  who we held to the second lowest PPP they have had all season. We held a Stevens from a PSU who averages more than 20 ppg to 12 freaking points. Marquette's only other loss this year is to Kansas and we blew them out of the water. We have had some struggles, but we have also been hurt. We have things to work on, but this team has a chance to fight for the top of the B1G. We finally have a hard nosed coach and not a car salesman. When he talks in the huddle, he gets mad and actually coaches and doesn't just clap and say we are still in it guys. I have no doubt in my mind that some of the sloppy play will be ironed out in the next few weeks.
We look to be getting back to back Indiana Mr. Basketballs (and probably a third in Leal but that remains to be seen.) We are getting players that we actually want and beating out other blue bloods to get them. The role player guys we have in the incoming classes are quality 4* kids and not Tim Priller.
I don't think we are world beaters just yet and I have some concerns about this team, but the season isn't even a month old yet. Let it play out and look forward to Saturday and the future of the program.
Where is the love button

You said played our best ball down the stretch so I chose to look at the stretch. It sounds like you are saying we played our best ball in the middle of the season now which is different then the end.

The stretch or end was not good

How about the last half then? Because even though we went 4-7 in your handpicked stretch which isn’t the end. I could have said last 8 and it’s all the same. But look at the scores and not just the records. It was our best ball easily. Which is what I said. We looked like trash heading into January. From the 1st part of January until the the end of the year was our best ball. Which to me is down the stretch or last half of the year. I didn’t say last 11 games.

If someone dont think we played better the last half of last season then i wouldn't waste my time. They obviously didn't watch and are just going by the losses

As far as concerns go, I get that most people are looking big picture, but my biggest is Justin Smith.... Dude is so athletic, has all the physical gifts, but holy ****, PLEASE stop turning the ball over and making Freshman mistakes. It is unbelieveable how many times he makes an errant pass that goes off a fingertip or goes in soft for a rebound in traffic. ESPN is telling me 2.4 TO's per game, which is attrocious for your 6'7 Forward, but I think if you add in all the deflections and just poor decisions, I bet Smith is to blame for at least 5 TO's a game.

How about the fact they he can’t make a layup/dunk?

Didn't even get to that.. I want him to score points obviously, but at this point, I just want to see something that shows me he belongs on the floor other than his 48" vertical that we keep hearing about but may never get to see.

I can agree with this. He is such an enigma.

He hesitates everytime he is about to go up for a layup/dunk. Way over thinking it. His mental conundrum reminds me a little of Newkirk last year. Can't get out of his own way in that regard.

During Penn st he was in great position on his air ball layup but the defender easily moved him down and forced a terrible shot. He needs to play stronger in all aspects of offense. Passes shots all of it he plays week and without confidence imo
