Upcoming season

As I said I've only watched two scrimmages but just going with what I have seen. But from what I heard and read this spring and summer from Debord was that his offense is best when he has a dual QB. I hope he leads us to the rose bowl but from what I have seen not holding my breath.

I guess I’m just confused as to wonder why we wish Ramsey were a better passer. He can run but he’s no Lamar Jackson. However I’ve seen people say we need someone like dawkins to lead us to beat the big dogs. To preface this I was excited to add Dawkins...he does bring a lot of athleticism. However what did he prove at AZ that would make us think he has what it takes to beat UM or OSU? Just curious. Here’s some stats from his AZ days

I would have actually preferred Panix. Let him learn on the job since he will be the starter the next 4 years. It's a homecoming going back to Florida and should be a game he could have won.  I just think we need to give the defense more to prepare for than a pocket passer. I'm not at practice every day so I'm trusting they made the best decision and will support it.

Yeah, just not a fan of Ramsey. His arm strength will always hold him back. We won’t beat the Michigan’s or Penn State’s of the world with him starting.

Allen even said that Penix was the best of the 3, just more inconsistent. Well, to get more consistent, you let him learn in game.

He won't make mistakes and can manage a game. He started 4 games last year.

Seems to fit with the conservative play calling last season. This staff seems to play not to lose more often than they play to win. I just can't get behind that mentality, but I guess we'll see what happens.

Bright side-

Ramsey stole Lagows job as a Freshman and put up reasonable numbers and results.

And beat out a very talented freshman and grad transfer. Or at least matched them.

Stay excited for now guys.

Wait for us to lose 3-4 before you give up.

I don't understand why everyone is so down on Ramsey. Yeah he was average at best last season but he was also a redshirt freshman who was learning a brand new system under Debord. Also I'm sure the offense last year was not tailored to his strengths since Lagow was not mobile whatsoever. After another year in this system and better strength and conditioning I think we'll see an improved Ramsey. And if he struggles or gets injured, we'll have capable options behind him.

Frankly, I like Ramsey.  He made some nice downfield throws last year, although it was definitely something he needed to work on.  While he isn't highly mobile he's mobile enough to make a play if things break down.

Looking at the stats, Ramsey was a better passer pretty well across the board last year than Dawkins in more attempts (8 games vs 7).  Even if you compare Ramsey's RS FR season to Dawkins career than Ramsey is more accurate with a better rating.

QBs have to be able to throw and Ramsey is a better passer than Dawkins; plus we're not throwing a true freshman to the wolves.  That's not even factoring in that Ramsey also had the off season to improve.

I figured this would be the case. It sounds like maybe Dawkins isn't completely comfortable running the offense yet. Needs to learn the playbook a little better and adjust to a new offensive style. I'm sure he'll still have plays called for him. As long as our best QB is starting it's hard for me to complain.

I hope they red-shirt Penix and make Dawkins the backup.  No reason to burn a year of eligiblity for Penix.  He's the future IMO.

I think that this is where the new red shirt rule will be helpful. They can allow Penix to play sparingly and gain some game time experience without taking away his red shirt eligibility. At this time of year its all wishful thinking, but I am excited to see how this year unfolds. (Realistic but hopeful) Like someone else posted... ready to get my heart stomped on again, lol.

GO HOOSIERS!

He runs a 4.5.

That's pretty "mobile."

Maybe I should've used different wording.  He's not the type that can just look to run, passing needs to be his first option.

And I'm perfectly fine with that.  I've seen far too many so called "dual threat" guys that can't pass.

arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh, I feel like Charlie Brown watching Lucy pull the ball away as I am beginning to kick... I may need to revise my prediction...

I'm down on Ramsey because I never felt like he could pass the ball downfield. Now they say his arm strength is stronger so we will see. I was told Dawkins is not happy that he finished 3rd and is "weighing his options"
