Are the business and music school rankings a joke as well?

IU as a whole is not perceived as a top academic institution in the US. Not sure there is much of anything out there to disprove that.

Im well aware that the methodology is how much the school is willing to pay for the ranking.

Well A your wrong about when they started by a year. And B I’m sure they have the same old names at the top as the rankings that were a scam out of pure coincidence. Couldn’t possibly be that there’s a financial incentive to not drop in the rankings for some

I'm not saying that it's perfect (affordability doesn't seem to factor in), but all they are doing is aggregating data from a bunch of different sources.

And weighing it in whichever way fits their agenda best with most of that data points having to do with wealth and existing reputation. So basically circular reference and hence flawed

Or maybe, just maybe, a group of people got together and came up with a framework that they thought was the best way to objectively rank schools.

But a conspiracy theory is a simpler and more reasonable answer.

I'm not arguing that Indiana isn't a good school as my degree is from there, and I have had little trouble getting good jobs.  But outside of a few schools, anyone arguing that Indiana is one of the best academic institutions in the country has very little basis for that assertion.

Obviously I'm contributing to this thread going off the rails, and I'm not going to change your mind so I'll leave it at that.

They change how they weigh it every year they do it to get the results they want not the legit results

IU accepts more than 70% of its applicants. Its average SAT and ACT scores aren't elite. It's not a top academic institution. I'm surprised that this is a controversial thing to say.

It was my understanding that it was harder for in state kids to get in vs out of state kids.

IU operates on an old standard that says any Indiana high school graduate should be able to attend. As long as that is the case it can never be considered an elite academic school. The Board of Trustees is more concerned with the number of students than they are with the quality of students. The more students they can enroll in Bloomington, the larger the budget and the more money they control. There should be a gradual tightening of admission standards. There are several other state universities that those not accepted could attend. It will take a change of attitude among those in charge to get IU to elite status.

Or they are letting kids in to fuel expansion  because it allows them to fund improvements. The level of students they let in should not be an indication of education quality.

I agree completely. There are many, many bright kids at IU. With such a large enrollment of course there will be bright ones. However, there are also many students that shouldn't be there. They spend every night partying, they skip most of their classes, and they fail out after a semester or two. IU doesn't care, they still got their money. They just replace those students the next year. 

I love IU, and I loved my four years of undergrad in Bloomington. I can honestly say that there isn't another school in the country I would rather have attended. I had great professors, I received a great education, and I had a ton of fun. It's just not an 'elite school' in the traditional sense, and it won't ever be one until they change their admission standards.

Yep. I don’t think I was at the first one, but every one since I have been to. The comeback against Norte Dame was a good. Same day PU blew a lead against Butler and lost. Of course PU has been terrible in the event so that helps.
