I just saw this thread, and found it incredibly interesting, but the post that concerned me is IUHossier5's  post about the players not wanting to continue with the season.  If true, Coach Allen has much bigger problems than recruiting right now.

Did he say anything about who the players were? (Not asking names or anything, just in general). I could kind of understand backups and guys who never see the field wanting a break, but if some of them were contributors then that's a major problem.

IU football and basketball are almost a dumpster fire. Maybe we need a change at the top. I hear Tom Jurich is looking for a job.

He didn't mention anything on the players, but out of context he said this in, I was led to believe it was upperclassmen. Talked about how they hadn't really enjoyed a winter break. Pathetic if you ask me.

I also question how many of the players take Allen seriously. Just this break, a football player sent a message to a friend of mine that originally was from Allen to all football players. To sum up the message, it advised smart decisions at home (no green). A football player sending that to my friend reads, "Look at what Coach is saying now lol". I hope Allen gets the right guys because I question his hold on the locker room after all this.

Guy just landed Indiana's best recruiting class in a long time if not ever.  Cancers in the locker room weed themselves out.  Let them.  If some kid in a class is talking like that, he'll be exposed and out of here.   Tom Allen came in and built a top 25 defense from a bottom feeder in 2 years.   And some of you question his hold on the locker room.    The offensive line was a young mess.  We didn't have a QB.  We didn't have much at RB.   We had one reliable pass catcher.   Give the man time.

I agree that the man deserves time, and that the bad apples will weed themselves out. That being said, it explains why the team had the year it did. Purdue was much more tough in the game against them, and with what I said earlier, it makes sense why

Indiana improved > 169 yards a game (from 509 to ~ 340)  in total defense.  #1 in the country for that stretch .

Indiana improved by > 134 yards allowed in passing defense (> 313 to 179) in passing yards allowed.  #1 in the country

Indiana improved from .421 to ,299 in 3rd down efficiency (how often opponents converted 3rd downs).  #6 in the country

Indiana improved points per game allowed from 37.6 to 25.3.  The 12.3 PPG change,  #9 in the country

Opponent completion % has dropped from .595 to .545.  

He needs to improve on the offensive side of the ball.  Absolutely.  But if anyone is questioning his ability to connect with players or do his job; take a look at the numbers again.  Kids who don't buy in?  I'd place that blame on kids.  Because those who DO buy in - on the defensive side, anyway - are clearly playing far better than they did two years ago.

I'm a fan of his as well but how much does that have to do with the offense slowing down? Fewer possessions usually equals fewer yards and fewer points.

Yeah can we look at yards per snap from our opponent. Seems like a better indicator

A little confused. Those numbers were our defensive improvement, nothing to do with our offense.

Arguably Wilson's biggest failure was his inability to attract quality QBs given his pedigree at Oklahoma. He never developed the quarterback factory we were expecting when he was hired. He couldn't hold onto Kiel or Stevens, he lucked into Sudfeld after AZ hired Rodriguez, and he never had a reliable backup or replacement to Sudfeld in any of the years following Roberson's transfer. Zander Diamont should never be the number two option on a Kevin Wilson roster, yet that's where we were at for several years. 

Allen had to work with what he had, especially since he didn't do any offensive recruiting until last December. Being left with Lagow and a freshman Ramsey didn't help him much, but he's already bringing in QBs as good as we've ever recruited and it's only his first recruiting class.

Completely agree, my point was the defensive numbers might be inflated due to a slower tempo affording few possessions in which our opponent had the chance to gain yards and score points. I haven't looked at the numbers so that might not be the case.
