Soooooo first off, let's back off the judgy comments about Clifton. It's rude to speak that way. He's one of our guys now, and so let's get behind him and show support.
Next.... The kid is 18, and 6'10". He's got a gift, and we'll be fortunate to watch him grow into his potential. Don't think NBA guys aren't licking their chops at his measurements. They're prototypical.
That wingspan is nuts. I can't wait to watch Clif, Al, and Justin grow as basketball players.

Right on, looking forward to seeing him develop but not sure what judgy comments you are referring to... a few people said he was skinny and he is....

Q&A with Freddie: http://iuhoosiers.com/news/2017/7/14/mens-basketball-summer-q-a-freddie-mcswain.aspx

What were your thoughts on playing in Assembly Hall last year in front of all the fans?
"It's a fantastic place. I just loved it. The energy that the crowd brings is wonderful. And no matter who puts on the Indiana jersey, whether it was in the past or in the future, I know they will feel the same way."

Well said!

Updated OP with Race Thompson news, but I think this topic may have officially ran its course.  It was meant to be a hub for news as our new coach scrambled to piece together a roster.  And Archie has pulled a masterpiece of a transition.  And in respect to that I think we should just post news in other topics more reflective of the actual situation.

I hate to be this guy, but I heard from people in his hometown that Toledo SG Jaelan Sanford was graduating early and would come to IU to play his final season. He was a first team all state choice in 2015 and is a lights out 3 point shooter. I don't know if anyone has heard anything about this so I thought I'd ask. Something to watch for sure.

If true we are probably not getting romeo

If true, this would be a FANTASTIC pull:

  • All-MAC academic
  • Best defender on a team that is reasonably likely NCAA bound.
  • 16.7 ppg, 38.2% from three, 84.6% from free throw line
  • Good SG size at 6'4", 195
  • From Evansville

What's not to love about that? A whole lot better than speculating about another Priller/April type.

How do you know he's the best defender?

Sanford ran a little big of PG at Reitz too. We will just have to wait and see!

Dunno if it's true, but on Toledo's official team website, they note that Sanford "routinely guards the other team's top scorer."

Instead of IU, could it be it's actually University of Southern Indiana.  I quickly did some Google work and found this from Nov. 2017 - link to the full article follows.

Sanford jokes with former Reitz teammates Alex Stein, Jacob Norman and Nate Hansen about joining them at the University of Southern Indiana.

“They say, ‘The three of us are here, why not four,’’’ Sanford said. “We keep in contact.”

But if this really has legs, we could certainly do a lot worse.  I found that he is the Ev. Reitz career scoring leader with 1,544 pts.  Toldeo lists him at 6'4".  Last year he averaged 13.6 ppg on 45.5% shooting; 39.2% on his 3's.  This season he's averaging 16.7 ppg on 45.3% FG's and 38.2% on his 3's.  He's an 85% FT shooter.

I don't see it that way. We clearly need shooters on this team. It's not like we are stockpiled with depth at any positions.  If anything it means some of the guys we are seeing this year will get less minutes next year which is good.
