I don't think it appears any different than what a conventional transfer does, and they leave at the semester all the time. WayneFleekHoosier 1 Quote

If we use a scholarship on Carter it might help us with the big fish when they see Jay-Z court side at Assembly hall. In the end it could help us way more than a big could this year for one year Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app The last thing I want to see happen is recruiting kids just because of who might sit at courtside. And if who's sitting at courtside is the determining factor for a recruit to pick IU over another school, then quite honestly, I don't care if the kid goes elsewhere because he's not really that interested in playing for IU just at IU. He's worth recruiting on his skills alone and has a great relationship with Archie from Dayton. 2.) I don't think anyone is going to pick IU because Jay-Z might sit courtside a couple games a year if Nahziah comes. Just like I don't think anyone committed to UK because Drake makes occasional appearances or references to them. It's all just positive attention for the program and being seen as a destination school. I don't see any harm in it. MoyeNeeded, Btownclouds, CR3AMnCR1MS0N and 2 others 5 Quote

Because you don't transfer to become a walk on somewhere else since scholarships are no longer involved. So "quitting" in Vijay's case is essentially the same. And kids transfer from schools midseason all the time. I personally know kids who were recruited to play sports (soccer and baseball) at small schools that quickly figured out that they weren't going to enjoy the experience. They quit, and came to IU for school only at the semester. This seems somewhat similar. thebigweave 1 Quote

Popular Post WayneFleekHoosier Posted May 30, 2017 Popular Post Posted May 30, 2017 Yeah, I'm from Fort Wayne. Never heard anything bad about the Vijay situation. Parents and Vijay probably had this in mind for some time. Vijay, by all accounts I know, is a great/good student and takes school seriously. Education is important to mom especially. Popular Post WayneFleekHoosier Posted May 30, 2017 Popular Post Posted May 30, 2017 I am nearly 100% that CAM uses this scholarship. I've seen enough CBB to see how these things work. Our roster needed help. CAM is trying to improve the roster. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners Brass Cannon, CR3AMnCR1MS0N, IUsafety and 6 others 9 Quote

He's better than his ranking and you can see that by the way he plays. Isn't afraid to get scrappy and that's the perfect type of player for Archie's system. Quote

I wasn't particularly impressed by the Moretti highlight videos. Anytime the highlights are clips of catching a pass and hitting an open shot, that just means they left the other 63% of misses on the cutting room floor. And we really don't need guards now, and have higher options for 2018. I agree, CAM wants to fill this scholarship. The sooner he can fill the roster with players brought up in his system, the better for his team. There is no reason to bank a scholarship with the 5 coming next year. Quote

HinnyHoosier Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 I feel like Carter is plan A for Archie having already locked him up once. He probably has a better idea of what he's getting in comparison to Moretti. That plus the need for a front court body vs a back court body. But a Plan B in Moretti isn't bad if Carter doesn't work out and he's really wanting to fill that last scholly. Looks like the guy can shoot and has great confidence in doing so. I'd have liked to see more play making for the teammates around him, but I've only seen one video. You don't know who's making the vid, either. Could be some clown that thinks offensive talent is nothing but making buckets.Guess we'll see. I'm anxious to see this squad regardless! Yogi's Picnic Basket Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 We have tons of guards I'm not sure we have a PG though. Exactly. Newkirk is the closest thing unless DG is being developed strictly for PG duty this offseason even then I feel more comfortable having someone that can pass the ball like Davide. He will create a lot more scoring options for DD. Sent from my LGLS676 using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Hoosierfan2017 Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 Small school basketball isn't for everyone. Idk any specifics about Vijay, but I could see him not liking playing in front of a few hundred fans every night after watching his brother play in Assembly Hall and such. Being a walk-on at a school like IU might be a more enjoyable experience. MemphisHoosier, IUsafety and ALASKA HOOSIER 3 Quote

Stuhoo Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 Moretti was the starting PG on the U-20 Italian national team at 12.8 ppg. That's a kid that is ready to play immediately. I'm also a fan of picking up Carter, but it seems that he might be a year or two away from being a real contributor. Dalton26, ALASKA HOOSIER, lillurk and 1 other 4 Quote

He won't affect Garland from coming so I am all for it. Carey is good enough to where he will get minutes as well and same for Phinisee. Best case for us and the kid he is the real deal and stays a year maybe two. Worse case he is a solid option for 4 years that won't deter the big name kids from coming here.Sent from my LGLS676 using BtownBanners mobile app Kepner 1 Quote
VO5 Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 Something that just dawned on me in regards to Moretti. James Fraschilla is still with the team this upcoming year right? His dad is Fran, who scouts Europeans as his job. I wonder if Fran mentioned Moretti to Archie or told James to. Would make a lot of sense. Kepner, Hovadipo and Hoosierfan2017 3 Quote
Yogi's Picnic Basket Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 Another weird thing with all the new schools recruiting Brian Bowen or at least reaching out shouldn't we? He is from Indiana and could take an unofficial. I know he didn't like the previous staff one bit but he would be able to stay home and likely be our best player besides maybe DD or possibly RoJo. Shots would be his. Depaul is the only school that offers more shots than us but we have the exposure needed as well. Just thinking out loud I guess.Sent from my LGLS676 using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
