Another weird thing with all the new schools recruiting Brian Bowen or at least reaching out shouldn't we? He is from Indiana and could take an unofficial. I know he didn't like the previous staff one bit but he would be able to stay home and likely be our best player besides maybe DD or possibly RoJo. Shots would be his. Depaul is the only school that offers more shots than us but we have the exposure needed as well. Just thinking out loud I guess.

He's from Saginaw, Michigan, but I agree you would think he's worth a look. Perhaps there's some red flags with such an extended recruitment that CAM doesn't want to deal with. Not sure. Or maybe CAM did not want to recruit Justin Smith back to IU and then immediately recruit over him. Wouldn't be a great look.

I get the Smith part, but see Bowen as a 2/3 and Smith as a 3/4 so there would be plenty of minutes for both. Bowen wants to be a one and done very badly as well so wouldnt have much affect IMO. Still worth mentioning tho. Good point. I think he ends up at Depaul or Creighton.

Holding the scholarship doesn't make sense to me since we have 5 slots at minimum next season. Carter appears to be a mis ranked player that is on the rise. Will be a 4 star in 2018 class. He's more than holding his own in EYBL. He's a gritty, hard working, athletic player.
6'6" is good size. I think Clifton Moore is going to be able to contribute this year and surprise a lot of people.

Seems like a solid get at this stage of the game.

BUT Moretti is visiting now so the staff is still exploring options and will decide what best benefits us.

Ok it seems a month ago people were saying no way to another 3 star wing. Just curious what changed.

I'm all in favor of using the last scholarship of the right player is available. I don't want 6 fresh recruits coming in next season. That's not a successful way of running a college program imo.

If the 13th scholarship is going to be open more often than not banking it isn't a big deal either.

If Carter is that undersized junkyard dog type than I'm all for adding him. We could definitely use that player that instantly brings that extra level of toughness ala Moye, White, etc. You can't teach that toughness but it seems infectious to the rest of the team. Davis seems like a player that enjoys a little extra contact. I think Durham is in that same mold.

The last thing I want to see happen is recruiting kids just because of who might sit at courtside.  And if who's sitting at courtside is the determining factor for a recruit to pick IU over another school, then quite honestly, I don't care if the kid goes elsewhere because he's not really that interested in playing for IU just at IU.  Kick me all you want, but that's the way this old fart feels.

It's not choosing "because of" it's a plus factor. If you really can't decide between two restaurants because they're both awesome in their own unique ways and then you find out Paul McCartney will be eating at one of them, it nudges the equation a little.

Alternatively, a recruit may be introduced to another side of IU through a famous instagram or something like that and find he wants to prioritize.

Agreed! It is good fun to speculate on the implications of roster decisions, but we hired the man with the expectation that he is gonna know what he is doing and will make excellent judgement calls.

As far as everyone being fine with Archie, that will last exactly until he loses a few in a row or runs a crappy in-bounds play! :)
