This is a good point. If we are thinking NBA guy the timing for those will make this unlikely. Sure they could talk behind the scenes but that is a very long gap.

if we're thinking NBA guys, I expect it'll probably be at least another year anyway on Donovan (& longer, if ever, on Stevens). Hoiberg, on the other hand, may well be looking for a job within the next few weeks for all I know, but I'm not sure what I think about him as a college coach (or another ex-NBA guy, Enfield).

Hoiberg could be looking for a job before the end of the year

I didn't want to bring Crean into the jbj thread so I'm posting here. Does anyone think it's possible the Marion announcer guy is right that it's a day to day injury and Crean made the announcement to help save his job? He's obviously feeling the heat and is probably worried that a loss to Northwestern will throw the fan base into anarchy. Announcing jbj is out "indefinitely" immediately lowers expectations. Now if we drop our next few games it's expected and if we win we "overcame adversity."

To farfetched for me.  Now, the fact that his brother Vijay just quit the St. Francis team earlier this week and now the JBJ injury really opens the door for conspiracy theorists.

It seems so conspiracy theories. But wait for the flood gates to open up if it ever got released that this is actually what is going on.

I don't think Crean is smart enough to do that. He has to much of an ego to not play their only player who can score.

IU's ridiculously vague press releases drive me into creating conspiracy theories lol. We'll have a somewhat better idea what's going on after we see how many games he misses.

Lol that's probably true. I was imagining a scenario where jbj was going to miss tomorrow's game regardless. If he announced it right before tipoff that wouldn't be enough time for us to lower expectations. This way we have a full 24 hours before the game to digest it. At this point it's just a huge guessing game trying to figure out wth is going on with our team lol.

My expectations weren't that high to begin with......

If anyone wants a good laugh, go read the coaching philosophy section of Crean's wikipedia page.  Pure gold.

One of the better parts says he emphasizes shot selection.  As many quick contested 3s as his players take he either doesn't give a crap about shot selection or does a horrendous job of teaching it.

His shot selection is 'Shoot first, ask questions later'.

Questions include:

"Can I get a shot off before any time comes off the shot clock?"

"Do I have to go to the defensive end?"

Thomas Bryant couldn't be reached for comment, he was crying in the fetal position after being called for a travel; he cried even harder after being reminded he's supposed to play defense and that he's not a guard.

FWIW a lot of Missouri fans are hoping they can make a run at Crean after this season, as their coach is just pitiful.

I think this would honestly be a good fit, and not that far-fetched.  Crean is just a better fit for a school that plays with a chip on its shoulder and pulls the underdog "they don't respect us!" line, instead of a program trying to be consistently elite.

Given everything that has already happened this year, and everything that is pretty likely to happen from here on out, I think there's a good chance IU and Crean mutually part ways in a few months and he ends up somewhere like Missouri.  He'd be the right guy for a rebuild job there.

Sounds good to me. How soon can we get Tom a house in Columbia?
