I have no idea whether Crean said it or not, but I do vividly remember Pat Forde posting an article about Crean's hire and he definitely said nobody would outwork Crean in recruiting and some thing to the effect of how Crean was going to lock-up Indiana and the coaches who have been poaching players from Indiana better enjoy it while they can.

I seem to remember Crean saying something along the lines of locking up the borders.

He may have, I don't remember specifically. I'm 99% sure Forde said it in his column on Crean's hire.

Cody and Yogi. Other than that lots of misses. We like to act like it doesnt matter but I bet when we do hire a new coach recruiting and a renewed interest in building relationships in state will be part of the equation.

I seem to remember something like that, but it's been a while and I've slept since then.

Hey, he did get Grant "might be top 15 in state, maybe" Gelon since that 2012 class.

Okay, Blackmon was a McDs AA so there's one.

Your guess would be correct.

I've never used the player's name on the board, and won't now.  I don't usually say anything because I didn't hear it directly from the player and I never have info, it's second hand from someone that knew the player.

Did he possibly have a brother who played at State?

I remember Forde's article on this too.

In regards to if we could make an elite hire, from Janitor
@HoosierTrav since "new hire" hasn't been mentioned.. it is difficult to say..let's just say the "buzz" is back and it's warmer in the gym

I hope this isn't code for Buzz Williams.

Maybe Bill Walton?

Bill would have fit right in with the team a few years ago, if ya know what I mean. My only worry with Bill Walton as a coach is the sitting around in a circle singing kumbaya during timeouts. Other than that we should be good.

I bet he would publicly never say a bad word against Crean. But privately, I'd like to hear what he has to say about him.

Crean never used him the right way (Zeller).  Cody never took a jump shot, and Crean's putting him in the middle against that Syracuse zone was the dumbest possible decision.  That needed to be Oladipo for myriad reasons, but Zeller had no chance to succeed there.....but there he was.   That single game and single decision is enough for me to think Zeller would roll his eyes about Crean.  Yes, Zeller was able to show his athletic ability (Crean had him consistently run to the rim, which is a good call), but he limited Zeller in other ways.  Not until he became an NBA player did he develop a short range jump shot.   But you park him at the FT line against a good zone.  I still can't believe that decision.  Hell, Butler showed a year or two before how to beat it with Ronald Nored at the FT line.  Why would Zeller be there and not on the baseline??   I digress..

1. Stevens--obviously!

2. Holtmann--would be a solid hire!

3. Archie Miller--a very close 2nd to Holtmann.

I'm still on the Archie train. He consistently gets good results while having the WORST luck I've ever seen. Just this season he had a player pass away pre-season and lost his starting center (former target Cunningham) in the first week of the year. Took a team to the tourney with his tallest player being like 6'5 a couple years ago after kicking guys off the team/injuries.

And then michigan came in and schooled the zone in the final four running mcgary at the ft line. That Syracuse game was such a coaching debacle. You are correct zeller never took a jump shot and now he has bryant running around on the three point line. Bizarre.
