TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

I wouldnt be against it. I go to church with Matt Howards older brother and we were just discussing this.

Maybe, tomorrow you should ask about a certain coach in Boston. I had a friend who knew Brad from his Depauw days and often has dinner when they are in town. My friend is not someone I see often but she told me he was drawn to the NBA to some extent because he would have more time with family as NBA coach (off during summers). I have not been able to find out if this has panned as he hoped.

Think my bro in law said it best this afternoon. This Crean tenure has become exhausting for the diehard IU fan. Just enough big wins and so many WTFs.

Yes yes yes. So many ups but soooooo many downs. I love IU basketball 2 nd to my family/friends. I never miss a game but man it's getting hard, really hard. This is bad but I wish we didn't win another game this year just get Tom out lol

Yeah he thinks his scheme is perfect the way it is and that today's performance is an outlier. The problem is that this happens all the time against teams like Louisville, Wisconsin, Butler, etc. His teams have ALWAYS turned the ball over at an alarming rate. They ALWAYS look disorganized and confused in the halfcourt and they ALWAYS make dumbfounding mistakes on the defensive side of the ball.

These things wouldn't bother me so much if they were the outliers with his teams but this isn't the case. He just does not possess the ability to be elite nationally. What we have seen in the almost decade with him, is exactly what we have to look forward to. I wish it wasn't the case bc I realize that he's here to stay for a while.

I'm just bummed out about where we are. I just want us to fulfill our potential as a basketball program. Right now we are settling for being an inconsistent, middle of the pack (nationally) program. We can do much better than this. Just need the right fit. Brad Stevens, would be perfect for Indiana but won't be a realistic possibility, ever. We are just going to have to get lucky.

Happy New Years everyone!

Lots of fans are now settlers.

I keep hearing everyone say we are stuck with Crean. We don't have to be. Stop going to the games. Literally, empty half of Assembly Hall for these conference games and watch him be gone by end of season.

Problem is, Crean has us all by the balls because we know more than likely he has a run up his sleeve. We know he is going to make some noise again soon and we are all going to be tuned in and hollaring along.

That is the saga with Crean at the helm... and I don't know what to do about it anymore.

Doubtful. His buyout is still 4mil until summer.

When the buyout was $10+ mil, it was an issue. With all the donations already spent on renovations/additions and BTN money, $4 mil is a proverbial passing around of the hat. Like others have mentioned, if the right coach is available the move will be made. Crean isn't great but he's not bad enough to fire just to bring in the next flavor of the month.

Crean will not be gone this year. It's a fact. Plus no big time coach would come here if he was fired a year after winning the big ten.

I'm ready to move on from crean aswell. But it's not happening this year.

Agree. It would take something epic such as a complete collapse and missing the tournament, which is not going to happen. The year is after next year. Say we slump to a 4th-5th place finish this year and get a 6 seed and lost in the second round. Then TB, JBJ and OG all leave, and our 2017 class has nothing close to the talent to replace them and we still have the pg issue next year and we finish 6th-7th in conference and are a bubble team. That's when he'd get fired.

I'm just going to say this again: Glass is letting it play out because he knows how important his next basketball hire will be and doesn't want to make a change just for the sake of making a change. It isn't as simple as just handing Stevens a blank check. So can we please stop with the "Glass will never fire Crean/Crean will be here as long as Glass is" nonsense?

It sucks, but it is the smartest play here. Everyone posting in here is sick of mediocre success with Crean. Let's not rush into a mediocre hire expecting different results.

You can count on one hand the schools with richer history and richer resources for a basketball program. I don't think "attracting suitors" will be any issue. I don't think someone like Shaka Smart turns down a blue blood basketball school to stay at a football school, especially if the money is right.

If those 3 are gone and we still dont have a capable PG, I'd be happy if we're a bubble team because honestly we'll probably be a below .500 team.

You give a coach like Izzo or Pitino a starting lineup of Newkrik, RoJo, Tucker (if he comes), Morgan, and Davis they're competing for B10 championship. Crean like I said is probably below .500

Let me premise by saying I am done with gimmick coaches and don't want Shaka Smart here. On the flip side he is not leaving Texas. Just hired there. Having excellent recruiting success. He is settling in. He isn't going to leave that for our tradition which is mostly 30 years ago and longer.

Its unlikely we attract Stevens, or even Donavon. I am pleased that Smart is at Texas. And hope he stays for 30 years. Most of us would not want Calipari ir Pitino, even the young one. I do like Collins, Fife, and Jacobsen for investigation, but not sold on any of those 3 yet. I did not care for the previous list posted here. Greenberg please, he is over his head as an analyst.

Would love a Fife hire.
