TOM CREAN FIRED

The big debate is the Blackmon injury.

Crean didn't make that change, yet sadly it might have been his best "coaching move" to date.

And ironically, it probably saved his job to be honest.

I said this earlier. I think that is what changed the season for him, and I think its the reason he is still at IU.

It gave him a crutch to lean on and made us a better team at the same time. It was the biggest blessing he could've hoped for.

I'm in the camp that says the state of Indiana specifically, and the surrounding area, should be the single highest priority in recruiting.  It's one of the richest hot beds in the country and we're located right in the heart.  Not many of the top programs can say the same.

Not the mention that the way the game is taught can make a difference, a focus on the fundamentals that make the game can matter.  Yes, I do think there is a difference from what I've seen of Indiana ball and East coast ball.  Soccer players have said they went overseas to become better players become the game is taught differently, because there is less tolerance for error; same concept here.

Yes.. I've been saying this for awhile

Yeah he's so lucky our McDAA elite scorer was lost for the season to injury. No way the team would've been able to improve with him.

Jbj couldn't guard a kitchen table. The kid is allergic to defense. There's no question that the team was better last year after he got hurt. Maybe we would've been just as good or better  if he didn't get hurt, we'll never know, but the team post-injury was better than the team pre-injury.

Let's say we give most IU fans what they want on here. Here are options IMO that are valid.

Shaka Smart- would he leave UT for us? Maybe...recruiting both states is key for both places. Don't think he leaves this soon though.

Greg Marshall- does he finally leave WSU after all this time for the "big" job. I think we could easily get him if we wanted.

Mark Fox- some may think this is weird, but people around the country really like his knowledge and is well respected. Would have a lot more possibilities player wise than at Georgia in recruiting. If he had top talent could he still develop those low ranked guys like Crean that has made him so good. Could easily get him but isnt the name recognition most fans would want.

Tony Bennett- if they dont get over the hump in the tourney again this year does he decide to move on if the right job pops. Was a candidate last time but didnt want to make the move. This would be iffy as a possibility.

Andy Enfield- my personal favorite honestly. What he did at FGCU and the way he has turned USC around so quick is amazing. Great recruiter and developer. Coaching is good but not great. I could see this happening, but thats just me and I think both parties would be interested.

Chris Mack- does he leave his comfort zone of Xavier with no pressure for the opposite at IU. He would be a great get and would think it would be a big possibility.

Greg McDermott- another top 10 team at Creighton and his stock looks to be high after this year. Think we could get him with no problem.

Seth Greenberg- I dont like this but the university seems to like him since he emcee'd HH. Could definitely get him.

Brad Stevens- the one we all want but its not even possible without a playoff struggle from the Celtics. I think if we wait until after next year we would have a good shot, but he could also get Hayward this offseason and turn the celtics into a constant power again and he will probably never be an option again. I would do this in a heartbeat but realistically we may not have much chance.

IMO Crean is on par with half of these guys, but honestly change may be whats needed the most right now with us. I am happy with Crean but also want our program to take the next step and since he doesnt seem to be taking us there then we need to make a change. What are your guys thoughts on this list?

Butler just lost at St. Johns.

Fire Holtmann!!!

And hire Holtmann!!

That makes me very sad. Losing to St. John's & ISU but beat us? Wow. Butler has no where near the expectations we do or near the fanbase. I know it was a joke lol, but yeah not comparable to our crazy fanbase.

Holtman would be a more realistic 'get' than Stevens and I wouldn't be upset at all.  I don't get a real warm and fuzzy with many of the names Yogi threw out a couple of posts up but it doesn't really matter because CTC ain't going anywhere unless there's a total program collapse on another round of off-court issues.  Always fun to speculate and throw out what ifs.  It's what we do best!

For those of you who think that opening the checkbook will entice Brad Stevens, you are wrong as you can be.
If Stevens is ever the coach at IU, it will be entirely because he believes IU and the college game are the best place for him and his family, and it will likely be a decision that he makes with the intention of staying for the rest of his career. The man is already wealthy beyond imagination, and as a premier head coach, he knows he will remain so, whether he is in the college or pro game.

I truly believes that he stays in the NBA for a few more years. If he has a good level of success in the NBA he'll have one more feather in his cap for recruiting. I think with his name, past success, success in the NBA, and the tradition of IU he would be able to recruit at a high level and win big at Indiana until he decides to retire.

I don't think Stevens ever returns to coaching.  When he wants to quit coaching the Celts, he's done coaching period.  He'll be a GM somewhere in the NBA (maybe Ainge's job) or possibly an AD at a major university.  I don't believe he has any desire to get back into the recruiting wars of college basketball.

I get the frustrations on here for sure. I have them too. Just seems like some come out of the woodwork when we lose to a Nebraska or IPFW screaming "FIRE CREAN" from the hilltops and aren't really around other than that.

If Crean stays I'd love for him to bring in a guy who specializes in developing big guys. We've struggled to get top post players to come here even when we have big openings because our staff doesn't really develop/utilize them.

Because this thread gets locked and or people come in here to mock the proponents every time we have our wee bit of success for the year.

This thread has never been locked. It's here for people to vent their frustrations. Then the people venting get butt hurt anytime someone comes in with a counterpoint.
