Exactly.   The NBA is a players' league.  He may never leave it, but I'm not convinced.  I know he's not a fan of the travel in the NBA and he doesn't necessarily like recruiting; but him at Indiana?  He wouldn't have to do much.  I've heard he'd come and I've heard he won't.  Both from reliable sources.  He's a one man list until he's not; but Crean is not the answer.   Has never been the answer.  He's a snake oil salesman with lots of energy and a good line of bull sh*t.  He's finished above 4th place in a major conference exactly one time in his career.  Same number of times he's made it past the sweet 16.  What else does anybody need to know?    Either we have lowered the bar or we haven't.

The "only" negative?  You're forgetting the complete lack of discipline and leadership that has led to no less than 8 arrests of players and that many dismissals or transfers within a 2 year period.    There's that....

 

Crean's had about 6 more recruits over the last 5 years than any other upper tier B1G program.  That doesn't include Zeisloft, Bielfedlt, or Newkirk.  That seems like a good recipe for success in the B1G.

Yeah...it does seem like it.  If they had a decent offensive system, cared at all about defense or ball security, if they had any leadership or could make free throws (lack of focus)....  Quick shots and allowing way too much freedom to kids who don't make good decisions are coaching problems, and it doesn't matter if you have an NBA roster.  He's also lost more players than any upper tier BIG program (and are we upper tier anymore?? ).    Getting kids to say yes is one thing.....

Keep Crean. He's a good coach. Some bad apples but they'll be out of the program soon. Yes, he recruited them but I think it's hard to predict how...or if...a player will emotionally mature over three to four years. All I'm saying is a new coach is not the answer.

Would you? I wouldn't (if I were him). I love IU and that doesn't make any sense. He has a destination job, and is an up and comer in the highest coaching level possible.

My heart would say yes but everyone around me (family, friends, agent) would probably be furious. Let's say it doesn't workout in Boston. He'd still be able to come back to whatever job he wants. Probably the IU job will be open again because I'm sure our next hire will be Kelvin Sampson or something.

It seems like it because it is like it...  We've had 21 frosh from 2012 to 2015.  UMich is the next closest with 15.  That doesn't include transfers.  I believe they've had the same turnover with players leaving to the pros as well.  We've also had a number of assistant coaches or other personnel leave town.

What perennial top 25 program(s) would be lining up to sign Crean if he were fired?  If IU were to let him go what would be a reasonable destination for him?  

 

I'm guessing a lower tier power 5 conference team or a decent mid-major is where he would land.  I also believe that's the best fit for him and his family.

I doubt that CTC is going to be fired mid-season without something far worse than poor coaching. Crean lost me several years ago, I've been ready to see him go. As far as his tenure, I was far more interested in the "rebuilding" teams the first few years, than I am in what we are fielding now. There were some damn hard workers on those first few teams. They lacked talent, and they were not winning crap, but at least I could take a little pride in them. IU under Crean peaked with the '12-'13 teams. I loved the players on those first CTC teams, whether they won or not. I really don't care how the rest of this season goes as far as who will be coach next year.

So sick of the bad apples excuse. Who keeps bringing in these bad apples? Its blatantly obvious this team has been coached to do one thing, shoot threes. We shoot well, space well on offense but thats it. This team is insanely talented and the kids aren't stupid. They simply have not been coached in the other facets of the game. Watch 5 minutes of an In iana game and it obvious. Fire the one dimensional coach.

That won't matter at all to a new coach.  Half of those kids aren't even on the team anymore, and all but 1 or 2 will be gone after this year.  I was only describing the state of the program in the eyes of a new coach, and how it's a lot different (better) than when the job was last available in 2008.
