Popular Post Stuhoo Posted February 22, 2017 Popular Post Posted February 22, 2017 I don't want the new coach selection to be centered on the current level of name cache of a given candidate. I WANT the selection to be entirely based on the opinions of a search committee with extraordinary expertise and extraordinary program familiarity. I want the new coach to be chosen by a search committee of men like Keith Smart, Jim Crews, Calbert Cheaney, Randy Wittman, Mark Cuban, Mike Woodson, and even Don Fischer. That DOES NOT mean that the new coach needs to have a history with IU, just that very smart IUBB people think that new coach will be a great long-term fit. That's what I want. Brass Cannon Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I agree that Cuban especially should be involved. He might be a crazy fan but he is very smart about basketball although he was a Crean supporter longer than I am comfortable with. Hmm double edge Sword I suppose. Quote
OliviaPope40 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Cuban has the money and he gave them money for the new room and he has bought coaching contracts before. Quote
Hoosierfan2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Am I crazy for not knowing if I'd want Cuban on the committee? I'd say I'm definitely crazy... But the Mavericks haven't been great as a franchise. Above average, yes. But not great. Quote

HoosierAloha Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 This sounds like an amazing idea but... the next hire is 100% on Glass. Even if he recruits these people to provide their opinions the hire falls on Glass. ALASKA HOOSIER and Dalton26 2 Quote

Okay good, I'm glad I'm not the only one lol. I mean, he's obviously been a successful businessman, but how much does he really know about basketball, particularly college basketball? I'm not convinced he knows enough about the intricacies of college basketball to bring a knowledgeable voice to the table. There are plenty of other people out there that I would trust over him to find the right guy for the program. Plus, I would kind of worry about his ego getting in the way. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

IU Hoosier41 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 It's hard to predict how this will go. I'm not sold we will be going down the coach search avenue yet, but I am certainly hoping we head that direction. We need new life in IUBB. Crean has been good, even great at times, but we all know we'll never get over the hump. I hope our next coach is a guy that we will stay behind and not have 1000 different reasons to hate on him and in game strategy. Will be extremely interesting to see how this all plays out. mdn82, ALASKA HOOSIER, Str8Hoosiers and 1 other 4 Quote

However, at this point, I'd like to see fundamental basketball at IU from the players and coach. I believe a coach that emphasizes defense, valuing the ball, and putting his players in position to succeed at IU would go a long way. I'm just tired of watching helter skelter street ball with little resistance on the other end with zero accountability. Hoosier Guy, Hoosierfan2017, GloryDays and 1 other 4 Quote

But I would also take a coach that knows how to coach a basketball team and knows basic basketball fundamentals and shoulders accountability HoosierAloha 1 Quote
cthomas Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I want a new coach but am not convinced we get one this year. I'm more than ready to know one way or the other. Glass seems like the type to always have a list, and when the time comes, to consult a select few people and make his own choice. I have no idea what he is thinking and so far he is not saying. I know that without change my expectations going forward will be very low. Quote

But unfortunately, I believe he's gonna go to Ohio State if Matta does indeed hang it up after this season ALASKA HOOSIER and Ryno6284 2 Quote
