IUFB Offseason Updates

Recommended Posts

I think, due to schedule we may struggle to replicate this year's performance next season. I thought it would take 3 years to get to the playoffs, without knowing Coach Cigs approach to recruiting or the portal. I think we're going to get bigger, stronger, faster. That will make the difference.

My biggest question will be if Tayven Jackson will stick around in 2025 or if Cignetti will opt for another mercenary hire off the portal.

I’ll have to trust Cig but Tayven looks good to me most times. His fill in game was definitely rough though. And if that I’d what Cig sees in practice it might explain it. I’m quite curious about this as well. Really, really hope he stays.

Not surprised, at all.

Never seemed to be Cigs guy and knows Cig is looking for a producer in the portal.

Also, not saying it’s right or wrong but wonder what a guy like. Cherry is thinking. Cig seems to want to have a proven producer at QB but how  does an incoming freshman ever become that producer if portal QB’s are brought in each year?

He’ll likely get a far better payday by staying.

Just saying…

Need to come up with quite a bit of cheddar if it’s just about that. Say he goes at the end of the 3rd…Luke McCaffery is making about 1.6 million this season in Washington between base and signing bonus as the last pick in the 3rd round. 890k guaranteed. Around 1.4 for the guy picked last in the 4th.

And it seems that Mikail is a late 2nd/3rd projection before he starts working out for teams.

Can’t blame him if he goes, he was a dominant player, but I wonder if he’s an example of a kid who would benefit if the NFL had an NBA-type of structure where you could announce and go through the process and gauge the feedback. I feel like his measurements and testing aren’t gonna match up to his production. Feels like he could fall  into day 3 and then goes to camp and does what he does and suddenly he’s a steal. But in this era that doesn’t feel like the ideal scenario for him.
And I did not realize that 4th round money had gotten that stout. Good for them.

I would think that one of two things has happened:

1.  Cig has someone already lined up in the portal coming in.

2.  Jackson wanted a guarantee that he would be the starter next season and Cig would not do that.

I think that where Jackson transfers to will tell a lot.  If he's transferring somewhere that he'll have to sit or have to compete for a starting job, then it wasn't #2.  If he transfer to, say, a MAC level school where he is the immediate unquestioned starter, that #2 could have been in play.
