    Prayer Thread

God is amazing! So after I put my two weeks in I was let go immediately. Unfortunately, my new employee couldn’t get me started early so I was going to go a full month without a paycheck. My new boss and employer felt really bad that they were able to get approved for me to have a sign-on bonus that is equivalent to a normal two week paycheck at my old job!!! They’ve never done anything like this before but wanted to help me out (I never asked other than wanting to start earlier than the 28th with being let go). Thursday was a really bad day for me when I thought my family would have to go without my paycheck for a month. So blessed and thankful right now! New boss and employee are AMAZING!!! Do we have to start with an opinion? If so, I haven't liked a coach other than Archie since Knight. I know how Davis got the job and he was bad from day 1. There was never an ounce of respect to or from him until the day he was removed. Bad hire. Sampson could coach but was Calipari level dirty. Bad hire. Crean was bad from the very start and got very lucky with Oladipo. Bad hire....wait, this bad hiring is a trend? Archie can coach; he's Tony Bennett - except to be the coach at IU right now is a massive uphill hike. No one wants the job; too much pressure, years of mediocrity and a critical fan base that expects you to come in and reverse a 20 year trend at the drop of a hat. I don't believe in naming kids, but there were some REALLY rotten eggs over the last few years which Archie could not remove due to the situation Crean left him. The guys he inherited weren't willing to play the way he coached, and also didn't care to try. Some never should have been given a scholarship to begin with. All that said, I actually like what I see out of Archie and also think Cliff Marshall has presented a lot of our shooting issues with turning the kids into mini-body-builders (it's a problem). Archie has recruited very well; people are SO critical when we miss on a Trey Kaufman type, but look at what/who he has brought in. Imagine if TJD had gone to Purdue. Or Lander to UK. Or Romeo to Louisville. Nope, they all came to Bloomington, plus more. Hunter, Galloway, Leal, Rob...he is getting the guys he wants; the simply don't always pan out until they're a JR or SR. We played FSU, on the road and largely outsized, to a squeaker in overtime. Some poor and selfish decisions were made near in OT, which if you were watching, did not thrill Archie. Those "hero ball" quick offensive sets cost us the game, but they're going to correct themselves. We're way, way better than we were last year. We're disciplined, and that's powerful. Last year we were not. And 2 losses to 2 really good teams doesn't mean jack right now. Duke has 2 losses with nothing but 5 stars. UK, 1-3 with all future NBA players. Purdue, 2 bad losses. UVA - not a great start. Also, just my opinion, but IL is a live-and-die by the tempo of the game team. They'll take their lumps... Archie deserves more credit than many give him. There's no one that wants this job, so if we give him the guillotine, who exactly is coming to Bloomington to save the day? "Billy Donovan", right?

Indiana vs Purdue GAME CANCELLED AGAIN

    Oh my god, Aaron.

Since you're a critic (obviously), my guess is you're trying to justify your narrative -- which is strewn relentlessly throughout this board. Since you've written over and and over and over and over again how you feel about Archie, my only question would be -- is this thread really even necessary?

Love seeing Coach K having shots taken at him about his remarks on postponing the season and what not. Probably never says that if they were better/undefeated. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

    IU Football Ranked!

Indiana may not be playing today but that doesn’t mean we can’t be rooting our a$$e$ off today. We should all be fans of the following teams today: UNC, LSU, Missouri, Troy, UCLA. Happy Saturday everyone!

Answer is still the same as it was the last 2 Years you have made a thread similar 2 this one. it depends on each individual as to whether the writing is on the wall for him as coach. For some the writing was on the wall the minute he was hired, for others the writing began forming on the wall after a couple years and for others the answer is still no. Look forward to nexts years version of this thread. I might just copy and paste this one for next year

An elite culture builder + great player development hires. Doesn’t seem like Archie excels in either area. They better let him pay (or pay more often).

Bummer, but not a surprise. I go back to the days of Corso, the Memorial Stadium Nebraska massacre and Holiday Bowl and do not remember another year in which I enjoyed watching our defense so much. The attacking nature, and schemes, are a thing of beauty. He will be missed.

No, but it was a cracker box gym with balcony seating and the wall under the basket being the out of bounds line. The court wasn't regulation length so we had double midcourt lines. Those who are old enough will know what I'm talking about.

    IU Football Ranked!

If Miami losses North Carolina will become the "greatest 3 loss team even!" and jump us in the polls, even with a horrible loss to the worst team in the ACC (1 win FSU). They have another loss to a .500 UVA team and they didn't get blown out by Notre Dame! They have one good win against NC State in a shootout. If Miami wins they'll jump Georgia and Cincinnati and be out of reach for us the rest of the season. Georgia won't lose. Mizzou has struggled against anyone in the $EC not named Vandy. They were placed in the CFB top 25 as an $EC team that doesn't entirely suck and we need to get another $EC team in the polls to show how awesome the $EC is! I don't know anything about Troy but can't see Coastal losing that game. I'm still baffled by Iowa State and Oklahoma. Whichever one of those teams loses SHOULD drop quite a bit but the CFP has shown they love them some Big 12 and I could see Iowa State sticking around with a loss. We just need to hope that we get Iowa and can make a statement. I doubt the committee would do much if IU just barely squeezed by Iowa. The goalpost would move to "yeah, but they barely beat a team with a winning record."

Was that back with peach baskets when you played? ;) :) In all seriousness, I love that TJD did that, but also love knowing that this team will respond well and not pout. I’ve said this all along, this team will be a lot better as the season goes along and it’s stuff like that. This team is tough and loves each other, and that will bring them closer and make them better. Just need time on the court together to get it all worked out! Indpls. Cathedral (4-1) defeated Warren Central (1-2) 76 - 69. Tayshawn Comer had 17 pts for Cathedral. Tae Davis with 21 for Warren Central in a losing effort. Comer's 17 points came on 5-11 FG and 6-7 FT.

All well and good. Remove TJD then add our projected recruiting class for next season, (even assuming a grad transfer Big. He won’t be anywhere near TJD good) How does that project? Flawed team this year. Flawed team next year. Flawed team every year under Archie. I’m not advocating a firing of Archie. He WONT be fired. He has next year as a given unless the season goes to the abyss. It’s infuriating to be a middle or slightly worse B1G ten team year after year. If our projected roster next season looked like an improvement I’d feel better. It’s beyond frustrating being a player or 2 away from being good. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app

Just curious, say we get rid of Archie EOY. Who do you REALISTICALLY think we can get and get us to elite status in 3-4 years? Not trying to come off demeaning, I’m genuinely curious as I don’t see us being able to find a coach that wants to come here that could get us elite in a short turnaround. Keep in mind we made Archie a top 10 paid coach at the time. I am by no means happy with the results on the record books. But this year, IMO, we are better in defense. We are better on offense, move the ball more, more screens, more movement, just not knocking down shots. We are better in effort. The only thing I don’t think we have really gotten better on is shooting, so I will give everyone that. I believe this team is 1 solid shooter away from being good to great so whether that’s on the players or Archie or both it is what it is we can’t shoot. That being said, I think Archie has finally gotten players that will be here 3-4 years and buying into his system. This is the first year I think we have finally seen what that looks like, yes granted we still can’t shoot. However, I’m still hopeful that now that he has a core group of players that have bought in and now the system he can focus more on recruiting true needs versus recruiting players to willingly but in to his system, learn it, and teach it. No excuse for not being able to find a solid shooter to this point, but IMO I feel like we have made so pretty good progress. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Nothing wrong with that. When I played in high school in the early '60s, and and I was not good, we had fist fights during practice. Not everyone liked everyone, but on game night we were a team. To me, chemistry is a little over rated. Learning how to work and cooperate with people you don't necessarily like is one of life's great lessons.

As someone who has actually experienced what you're talking about, I appreciate the analogy. Now let the gnashing of teeth continue.

This may be for a different discussion, or maybe it would actually fit in here. Do we have any real evidence of the administration handicapping the men's basketball program in any way? Our football and women's basketball programs have terrible histories, but are currently achieving high levels of success rarely, and in some cases never seen here before. What kind of conditions would allow those programs to thrive, while causing our flagship program to suffer?

Really? This is how you lose credibility in a conversation... make some valid points, have a good discussion... try something different to get your point across (although we have all heard it a thousand times in every thread).... But stoop to this? I am not going to go back and do any searching whatsoever, but I would be willing to wager that you disliked Crean's antics, clapping, signs, etc.... But now Archie would be better if he did more of those things.... C'mon. Maybe its just me, but I LOVE Archie's all business attitude..... When (if - for you) we start winning consistently and get into the upper echelon and he begins to loosen up, party it up in the locker room after a big win, show some emotion (a la Tom Allen) then great... but now he is in the business end of making us Great/Relevant/BACK again.... keep grinding.

I think we have a long way to go before we say we are no better than last year. Having said that, I too am tired of seeing some things that are consistent issues every year. This is kind of where we are though. I do think the administration is not doing the coach any favors, but it does seem to be a tough argument when the football team has the same administration, and they have managed to build on success year after year. Maybe I'm being over simplistic. There is no way I would say the writing is on the wall though. I don't see a change made after this year unless it just totally falls apart. As much as I want to see the basketball team return to the elite status, I don't think I want a change made at this point. What coach would want to come here knowing they have 3-4 years or they are out? I'm afraid we have to see a few more years of mediocrity before a change is made. Or better yet, maybe we start seeing him build on success and its a moot point.

And this is to USPS's point... so many different states of mind tat everybody has their own answer. Elite for 1 guy is Top 4 in Conference and consistently in Top 25 Elite for 1 guy is Conference Champion & National Championships And to me it sounds (sorry if I am off here) that both agree Archie is not the guy, or the writing is on the wall, or whatever.... But to me this is a very big distinction... if you want to be Elite for the 1st scenario I believe Archie is there... knocking on the door and not going away.... if you want to be what the 2nd person says is elite then we obviously have a long way to go. I personally think we are heading in the right direction, I like the SLOW process, I don't want to be a 1 year explosion and then disappear again. Archie is recruiting the right guys, they are getting better every year both individually and as a team... the writing is on the wall for a contract extension!

We would’ve won the national championship last year if the tournament had been played.
