My prediction for Tuesday's CFP rankings:

  1. Oregon
  2. Georgia
  3. Texas
  4. Notre Dame
  5. Penn State
  6. Ohio State
  7. Tennessee
  8. Boise State
  9. Indiana
  10. SMU
  11. Alabama
  12. Arizona State
  13. Miami
  14. Ole Miss
  15. South Carolina
  16. Clemson
  17. BYU
  18. Iowa State
  19. Missouri
  20. Illinois
  21. Army
  22. Illinois
  23. Syracuse
  24. Colorado
  25. Memphis

That would make the seeding:

  1. Oregon
  2. Georgia
  3. Boise State
  4. Arizona State
  5. Texas
  6. Notre Dame
  7. Penn State
  8. Ohio State
  9. Tennessee
  10. Indiana
  11. SMU
  12. Clemson

That would make the first round matchups:

12 Clemson at 5 Texas

11 SMU at 6 Notre Dame

10 Indiana at 7 Penn State

9 Tennessee at 8 Ohio State

Winner of Clemson/Texas plays at Arizona State

WInner of Notre Dame/SMU plays at Boise State

Winner of Indiana/Penn State plays at Georgia

Winner of Ohio State/ Tennessee play at Oregon

My guess is they would flip Penn State with  and Texas/Notre Dame here to avoid a 1st round all B1G match up. At least I'm guessing that's that what the B1G contigent in the room would push for.

So what are the odds they have Alabama jump us so they can get Alabama in without bumping SMU?

They stated any teams not playing this week are set in that order and they won't jump anybody.  So IU is safe... if they stick to their word.

Some talking heads that I have heard seem to theorize the opposite -- the committee doesn't mind having conference teams eliminate each other.  Makes for good TV.

The committee has flat out said that idle teams have no additional data points and would not exchange positions with each other.   I'm not sure why you keep being concerned about IU being in.

You're taking them for their word. I am not. I realize I'm pretty much the only one which makes me feel confident but I won't be 100% until the final ranking.

Warde Manuel said that idle teams won’t move in relation to each other Tuesday. Rece asked him again on Gameday today and he re-iterated the point.

The committee does some goofy stuff, but I don’t believe they’ve ever outright lied on air about their process.

Correct.  If it is something that they would have considered doing, they sure as heck wouldn't publicly say they wouldn't be doing it.  And if they were truly going to just put in Alabama, they would have moved them in ahead of IU previously.

If you track the AP rankings, the CFP rankings have been very, very closely aligned with them.  Last week the top 11 in the AP rankings were the exact same as the top 12 in the CFP and the only difference at all in rankings was the flip flopping of Ohio State and Tennessee at 6/7.  Another telling item was that although Alabama was at 11, they were nowhere near what the #10 team was -- Boise State was at 1036 points, Alabama at 840.  Boise State -- at #10 -- was closer in points to #6 than #11.  It's kind of a hint that unless SMU laid an egg, they were going to stay ahead of Alabama.

It’s all about money. Nobody wants to see a third GA/TX game. I guarantee some thought will be given to good television and travel matchups. Remember this is a business. That’s why I think they figure out a way to have IU at Notre Dame. We shall see.

It's not out of the question, but I don't think it happens.

I've seen projections all over the place.  I would say it's safe to say we will not open with Clemson, Alabama/SMU, and IMO Tennessee (the Volunteers seemed locked into the 8/9 game and I think IU will be the 10).

So the matchup possibilities are Texas, Ohio State, Penn State, and Notre Dame -- whichever is ranked third in that group.

I know the NCAA basketball committee certainly has 'made' some matchups occur.  Georgia is basically the guaranteed 2 seed, so they would only meet Texas if they shook out as the 7 seed.  I don't think the committee drops them that far.

If they want storylines, SMU/Texas and Indiana/Notre Dame matchups would make sense.

Call me crazy but this would be my dream scenario for IU this year. A short trip to a ND team that I feel is overrated and beatable in a familiar climate in-state. And then Georgia on a nuetral field where I think they have been a very inconsistent team all year. I live in GA, and even the most die-hard dawg fans have said this doesn’t feel like the GA teams of the past few years, and every game it feels like they only play half a game. We could very easily punch them in the mouth early and then get a few Carson Beck turnovers and they start chasing the game. Let’s see what they do tomorrow, but I could see them liking and in-state rivalry game for tv ratings with IU/ND.

Agree all around here, but I think Beck’s shoulder is trashed. Whoever gets UGA is playing against Gunnar Stockton I would think. UGA is gettable with how stinky that offense is with either of them. Front 7 is still a nightmare though.

With watered down/uneven schedules it’s time to just forget Conference championships. Obviously it’s a special thing but winning one shouldn’t be an automatic bye.

It should just be another opportunity to prove you deserve a bye. Not a golden ticket. but with that if you lose badly you get held accountable

0%.

People are advocating for it on Twitter. I just don't trust the committee at all. "Alabama has a win over the SEC champ, so they have a better resume than they did last week when we ranked them behind Indiana."

Debates I think the committee has left:

1) SMU or Bama

2) Order of Texas, Penn State, Notre Dame, and Ohio State for 5-8 seeds

3) Clemson or Arizona State of the last bye

Vegas showing SMU gets in which I 100% agree. Really should not punish a team for playing an extra game. ACC commish did a nice job talking about this on Gameday this morning.

If SMU is in, I think Texas is 5, Penn State is 6, Notre Dame is 7, and Ohio State is 8. They won't want to punish Texas and Penn State for the extra game. Will be interesting to see since OSU beat Penn State head to head.

I think Clemson jumps Arizona State. #17 Clemson beat #8 SMU. #15 Arizona State beat #16 Iowa State.

How I think it'll play out..

1) Oregon

2) Georgia

3) Boise State

4) Clemson

5) Texas

6) Penn State

7) Notre Dame

8) Ohio State

9) Tennesssee

10) Indiana

11) SMU

12) Arizona State

First 2 out: Bama, Miami

I think 1, 2, 3, 9, and 10 seeds are set in stone. Rest are up for debate.

I see your logic, but I have a difficult time believing Clemson jumps Arizona State for that final bye.

Had that ACC title game gone into OT and Clemson had lost, they wouldn't be in the field.

I think ASU is No. 4.
