Are you sure?

Same scenario but different conference. SEC.

I'd be shocked if any 4 loss school gets in a 12 team CFP. They didn't let a 13-0 P4 school in the 4 team CFP. And this is the reason why IUFB and every other P4 school has an OOC like it currently is. Not one school plays 3 P4 OOC schools on their schedule.

Does Michigan get a bid if it loses all of their OOC games (where all 3 teams win their conference) but goes undefeated in the conference and then loses to either O$U or IUFB in the conference championship?

No; I am not sure.

Does a Big Ten school that finishes first in the conference (doesn't lose a single conference game) but has 3 OOC losses and Big Ten championship loss on its resume punch a ticket the CFP?

No team can lose 4 games and get into a 12 team playoff

#6 in the AP Poll. I’d venture to say that if we were any other logo—with a 16-0 finish, a defending national championship, plenty of returning talent, and a top transfer portal class—we'd be ranked in the top 5

Agreed, but it should work itself out as long as we win.  Plus, it gives the coaches locker-room material.

6 teams a total of 7 times.  With 0 being home games.  Dominant

"With 0 being home games"  omg that just sank in

Let's thicken the plot. The 3 OOC losses were to top half P4 bowl and CFP qualifiers and the loss in the championship game was a rematch where they beat in the regular season. Does this 4 loss Big Ten team punch a ticket?

Why are we playing and losing to 3 P4 teams OOC?

If you change your hypothetical to “lose one big game and kill two low-majors” and keep the rest of your hypothetical the same, a top B1G team would almost 100% be in the 12 team playoff.  That was the case for Alabama.

On the other end of the spectrum, Oklahoma lost twice in conference, didn’t even make the SEC title game. Same with Miami.  Texas AM had almost no good conference wins. They all three got in partly on winning a big OOC game in prime time early in the season.  Same thing with SMU the year before where they split two big ooc games and lost the ACC championship.

The playoffs devalue the regular season to the point you can take OOC chances for big games if you want.

I'm specifically talking about 4 losses and the "benefits" of a tough OOC for any P4 school.

Maybe so, but all 5 teams in front of them have a returning QB and that’s not nothin’. If you’re doing the dart throwing that is preseason polls knowing exactly what a team is at QB makes for a pretty safe vote. It doesn’t feel super disrespectful to me, though Cig, being Cig, I imagine pretty strongly disagrees.

I need an explanation. Just flipped through a FS1 broadcast of “Greatest Games: College Football” and the game they’re broadcasting is last year’s Ohio State-Michigan game that OSU by 18.
So a blowout is great, huh?

You could pulse OSU fans and I doubt that game makes a top 25 list.  WTF

They’re really struggling for content.

On a related note, Michigan might be my sleeper team to be really good. They’ve had a ton of talent through bad coaching. They have tons of money, and now Whittingham who is a good coach.

Their schedule is brutal. Maybe the toughest in the nation. But they could be a playoff candidate even with 2-3 losses.

Whittingham is a good coach. But there’s a reason why he was getting pushed out.

Over his career he wins about 2/3s of his games.  Over the last 10 years. About 2/3s of his games. Last 5 years about 2/3s of his games.

Yeah he’s got more talent but so do the teams he will be facing.  And even if he can up his game to about 75% of his games.  I don’t think that keeps them happy in AA.

What he’s not going to do is get arrested.
