IU Basketball: Who is leaving? Who is staying?

Recommended Posts

I agree. A frontcourt of OG, DD, and TB would be top 3 in the country. A senior Williams would be nice to have but I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep if he were to decide to go pro. I wish him the best of luck and I hope he has success. Im just really excited about our frontcourt next year with or without him. Juwan Morgan is going to be monster for us as well. Major mismatch, being able to handle and shoot the ball really well. Swiss Army knife.

He got really limited monutes ecause of injury and depth but he has a lot of talent and has the most potential i think to breakout this year. Like you said his ball handling and shooting abilities make him a do it all player

I personally think Bryant should stay. It sounds like his range could be anywhere from the 20's to even the mid-second round. That's a wide range. I just think if he came back and improved in his pick and roll defense and showed even more of a jumper, and then improves elsewhere as a sophomore should, he could work himself into the late-lottery next year.

That's a much more secure proposition for him.

I wasnt ever impressed with stone at all. Just saw him as kind of a dissapointment and very limited upside. Dont know if thats just me or not

He had a few good to monster games but Maryland didn't seem connected all season. It appeared they would go through times they would force it into Stone but there wasn't any movement around him. Other times they completely forgot about him and just bombed away from deep. Melo was found out after his frosh season and struggled to find a balance between setting up teammates, shooting, and snapping his head back.

Helps that Stephen Zimmerman from UNLV declared and is hiring an agent.  More big man competition in the draft although I'll admit that I have no idea how the NBA would compare the 2 players.

Also Diamond Stone appears headed to the draft so again, how does the NBA compare Bryant / Zimmerman / Stone plus any other big men who may be available?

Add Thon Maker to that list. Seems there is a rich pool of bigs on this draft. Fingers crossed TB decides to return.

How connected is your source? Like others, if I'm not guaranteed lottery I wouldn't hire an agent. I'm not sure of Bryant's situation though, maybe being a first rounder is what he's needed to hear in order to declare and hire an agent. I really hope he is back in candy stripes next season but regardless best of luck!

Well connected. Hopefully they're wrong this time, though. I agree it makes no sense to hire an agent this early on in the process.

First off thanks for the info ! I appreciate posters who share what they know/ have heard . I guess I'd wonder how a well connected source['s] could be wrong ? Has your source or sources been wrong before with their info ? No IU fan wants TB to leave this year so don't take this a  "shoot the messenger" type post. I'm just not hearing or reading this info anywhere else. Maybe the situation is in Flux based on who declares etc. Anyway, thanks for the info , even if it's not what anyone likely wants to hear.

I agree that NBA staff can get you better faster BUT you have to be good enough to make the roster and hold the roster spot to continue to get that service. Very few D league players go on to successful long term NBA careers. They are often forgotten about by the time the next draft rolls around.

Which is why I think he comes back. He will declare and not hire an agent. NBA will tell him he's late first round at best. He'll come back. I believe he will have enough people around his tell him he doesn't want sent to D league to be forgotten.

This is my belief, as well. But, do not know who is advising, beyond Crean, and staff.

Absolutely agree. Cannot be on the fringe

It would also be nice if our student athletes consider the value of staying long enough to obtain, or be within close reach of obtaining, a college degree.

Given the current structure and NBA rules, it isn't beneficial at all for certain players to even come close to getting a degree. The kids didn't make the rules, the adults did.

Mostly true.

If a player is top 15, there's lots of guaranteed money, and a future knee injury can't change that.

If a player isn't top 15, a knee injury after getting that agent can lead an immature 19 year old down a very, very rocky road.

IMO, players develop better in the pros than in college. Add that to the fact that Troy has his degree; and I think he oughta go. TB is not likely top 15; I think he oughta stay.

PS: The rules that the 'adults' made...suck.

I think there is a good chance both move on. Troy will go with whatever feedback he gets, even if it's probably D league or overseas. Bryant has an opportunity to be 1st round this year or next whether he stays or goes. I think he leaves because next year's draft is stacked. When I saw Bryant 's head on Crean's shoulder that told me he is sad his college journey is over , not oh well we will get them next season.
